Oct. 28, 2015: Two things in Bronxville are at their peak: the fall foliage and the Bronco athletic teams. In the first full week of playoffs, there were some hard-fought battles with both victories and defeats. By the end of the first week, the football and boys' soccer teams had been eliminated from the playoffs, but the girls' soccer and field hockey teams continue this week on their quest for a sectional title.
The girls' soccer team shut out Blind Brook 4-0 in the sectional quarterfinals and will play in the semifinals on Thursday. The No. 3 Broncos, who played their last home game yesterday, will go up against No. 2 Albertus Magnus at 3:00 pm.
With a 5-0 victory over Irvington on Monday, the No. 2 girls' field hockey team heads to the semifinals against No. 3 Croton today at 3:00 pm at Chambers Field.
The cross country teams competed at the Westchester County Championships at Woodlands High School on Sunday. The Bronco boys' team placed fourth overall behind Pleasantville, Fox Lane, and Somers. Senior Sean Ryan finished first for the Broncos and seventh overall. Brothers Alex and Matt Rizzo finished seventeenth and eighteenth, respectively. There were 239 runners and 34 schools competing at this meet.
On the girls' side, Kaitlin Ryan placed third, Olivia Scotti finished seventeenth, and Hilary Rizzo finished eighteenth, to give the girls' team a fourth-place finish overall. Bronxville won the county title in junior varsity and freshman races, with Gigi Chrappa finishing first in the county for JV and Marguerite Scotti placing first in the freshman race.
Cross country sectionals will take place at Bowdoin State Park on November 7.
