By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer
May 3, 2017: The end of the regular season is approaching, and the Broncos are proving they can compete at the highest level. At the Penn Relays last week, the girls' 4x400m relay team broke a Bronxville School record and look to continue their success at the Somers Invitational this coming weekend. The boys' and girls' lacrosse teams continue to get top rankings in the section and state, the boys' tennis team is undefeated so far this season, and the golf team has seven wins and only two losses.
Penn Relays
Last week, the Bronxville girls' relay teams competed at the historic Penn Relays, which is one of the oldest and largest track and field events in the country. Women were invited to compete in 1978, and Bronxville girls first attended in 1981. The 4x400m team, Eve Balseiro, Caroline Brashear, Laura Holland, and Kaitlin Ryan, placed second in their heat with a time of 3:56.82, setting a new Bronxville record. The previous record was set by Kirsten Ircha, Caroline Kirby, Holland, and Ryan in 2015. The 4x400m relay is currently ranked first in New York State for Division 2 schools.
The 4x800m and the 4x100m relay teams also ran their best times of the season at the Penn Relays. Patty Haggerty, Sydney Coddington, Holland, and Ryan finished the 4x800m in 9:25.58, and Margot Richards, Sabrina Mellinghoff, Alisa Kanganis, and Sophie Kohlhoff ran a 51.20 in the 4x100m.
Lacrosse
The girls' lacrosse team (10-1) had a solid win 18-14 over Yorktown on Tuesday. Ellie Walsh had six goals and one assist, Mason Warble had four goals, Olivia Jenson had three goals and five assists, and Allie Berkery had three goals and three assists. The team will travel to face another tough opponent, North Shore, on Thursday. The girls are ranked No. 3 in the state in Class D and No. 13 in the most recent Tri-State Girls Top 20 Poll by News 12 Varsity.

The boys' team (8-2) is ranked No. 5 in Section 1 for schools of all sizes and also holds the top ranking in the state for Class D. The team will face No. 7 Mamaroneck at home on Saturday at 3:30 pm.
Golf
The boys' golf team is 7-2 after dropping two matches last week to Scarsdale and Rye. Top golfers include juniors Liam Bishop and Daniel Bettino and freshmen Connor Stoltz and Will Tormey. Rounding out the varsity roster are seniors Will Vranka and Ethan Reich, juniors Alex Swensen, Aidan Denning, and Leo Gretzinger, sophomore Charlie Preusse, eighth-grader J.P. Swenson, and seventh-grader Henry Devaney. The team will face Pelham today at 4:00 pm.
Tennis
The boys' tennis team continued its winning streak with a 5-0 sweep of Keio last Friday and a 3-2 win again on Monday. The team, undefeated so far this season, has a full schedule this week with a match against Dobbs Ferry today and Croton-Harmon tomorrow. Senior co-captain Robbie Simon, who has been playing singles on the varsity team since seventh grade, has been the No. 1 singles player for the last two years. Senior Julian McCarthy, also a co-captain, plays second singles. Both captains will continue to play in college next year: Simon will play for Johns Hopkins and McCarthy will join the team at Oxford College of Emory University.
