Bronxville Homecoming this Week: See Schedule of Events

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer
Oct. 11, 2017: Bronxville High School's homecoming week began yesterday and will continue through Saturday night. Chambers Field will host multiple sporting events under lights, including field hockey, boys' and girls' soccer, and football games.
This year's Homecoming will include an opening ceremony for the new turf field at 5:30 on Thursday. Hayes Field opened two weeks ago and has already been regularly used by all three schools. The opening ceremony at Hayes will include Bronxville Board of Education members, school administrators, representatives from area youth leagues (Bronxville Youth Lacrosse Association and 5/6 Youth Football) and Athletic Council presidents. All Bronxville families are invited down to participate in a group photo.
Homecoming festivities will also include lots of good food. On Thursday night from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, four food trucks will be stationed in the Meadow Avenue lot. On Friday and Saturday, the Bronco Barn and Grill will be open for "fine" dining.
On Saturday morning, the Bronxville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the first annual "Yards for Yeardley Road Race," a 2.5-mile race starting at 9:00 am. A portion of the registration fees will go to One Love, an organization whose mission is to change the statistics around relationship abuse. The Bronxville Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting its annual fall sidewalk sale on Friday and Saturday.
The homecoming schedule and a preview of the games are listed below.

Homecoming Games: Preview
Football: The 3-3 Broncos moved up to Class B this season and will play in their final game of the regular season during homecoming. Bronxville suffered a 17-0 loss to Valhalla last Saturday, giving up two touchdowns in the first quarter but then holding the Vikings to just one field goal in the remaining three quarters of the game. Bronxville will take on top-ranked Pleasantville (5-1) on Saturday at 6:00 pm. Pleasantville's only loss this season was to Valhalla.
Field Hockey: The Bronxville field hockey team (9-3-1) sits at No. 7 in the LoHud Power Rankings this week after suffering a 1-0 loss to Valhalla last week. After the loss to the Vikings, the Broncos bounced back to defeat No. 10 Pawling 2-1 and went on to defeat Edgemont 8-0. The Broncos have great scoring depth, with seven different players contributing to scoring in the Edgemont game: Scoring were Kat Ungvary (3G), Hannah Weirens (2G), Andrea Shephard (2G), and Caroline Brashear (1G); Weirens, Fiona Jones, Ava Austi, and Hadley Barr each had assists. The Broncos take on Putnam Valley at homecoming on Thursday night.
Boys' Soccer: The boys' soccer team (7-4-1) is ranked third in Class B behind Blind Brook and North Salem. In the last week, the boys tied Edgemont 1-1 in a game that went into double overtime. They also defeated Section 9's Spackenkill 1-0 on Monday. Luke Doukas scored in the Edgemont game with an assist from Jeb Burnell, and Gabriel Morato scored in the Spackenkill game, also with an assist from Burnell. The Broncos will play their final game of the regular season on Friday against Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton is ranked third in Class C.
Girls' Soccer: The girls' soccer team is on the bubble of the LoHud Power Rankings this week. The girls are ranked No. 2 in Class B, just behind Albertus Magnus, a team they have yet to play. Last Friday, the Broncos defeated Edgemont 5-1 with scoring from Catherine Faville, Laura Holland, Devin Portner, Lexi Raviol, and Clio Dakolias.
Bronxville will face unranked Blind Brook at homecoming. On Tuesday, the Broncos will play Edgemont in their last regular season game.
Go Broncos.
