April 2, 2025: The Bronxville spring season kicked off last week with two away games for the girls’ lacrosse team and the Broncos will play their home opener on April 2nd at 4:30PM against John Jay Cross River.  Bronxville is ranked No. 4 in Lohud’s Preseason Power Rankings, while John Jay Cross River holds the No. 6 spot, setting the stage for a highly competitive matchup.

The Class D Broncos have a heavy schedule packed with many of the best teams in Section 1. The girls will play eight of the teams in the Power Rankings, including No. 1 Rye and No. 2 Nyack.

In the opening game of the season against No. 3 Suffern, the Broncos and the Mounties traded goals throughout the game, but the Broncos ultimately lost 8-7 in overtime. Scoring for the Broncos were Amy Villanueva (2), Maddy Williams (2), Charlotte Murray (1), Mabel Arrighi (1), and Rose Woolery (1).  Goalie Michaela Doheny had nine saves.

On Friday, the Broncos turned it around with a 15-10 win over Class A Wappingers Falls with goals scored by Linnea Hentschel (4), Ellie Garofalo (3), Murray (3), Williams (3), Villanueva (1), and Woolery (1). Goalie Doheny had 4 saves.

The team is led by Captains Amy Villaneuva, Campbell Molloy, Linnea Hentschel, and Maddy Williams. Seniors Villanueva and Molloy will play in college in the fall. Villaneuva has committed to play at Division 1 Bucknell, and Molloy will play for D3 Ithaca College.

The Broncos welcome a new head coach this year as Marissa Spinazzola, last year’s assistant coach, steps into the role. Despite undergoing four coaching changes in the past five years, Bronxville has remained a dominant force in both Section 1 and New York State.

The girls’ lacrosse team has consistently been one of the top-ranked Class D programs in the state. The Broncos have been in the State Semifinals six times since 2017 and won the Class D New York State Championship in 2022.

Women Bronco Lacrosse Players Currently Playing in College

Many Bronxville players have taken their talent to the next level. Ten former Broncos are currently playing in college: Bridget Finley (Amherst), Megan Krestinski (Bucknell), Molly Krestinski (Vanderbilt), Kiki Tormey (Brown), Whitney Rowan (Vassar), Olivia Shinsato (Georgetown), Catherine Berkery (University of Pennsylvania), Anna Becker (Columbia), Gabbi Bici (Washington and Lee), and Hanna Bishop (Georgetown).

Upcoming Games

In addition to the game against John Jay Cross River on Wednesday, the Broncos will play at Nyack on Saturday at 4:00PM. They return home on April 10th to face Somers.
