Seniors Shine in Bronxville Football Team's Win Against Blind Brook

Sep. 10, 2014: The Bronxville varsity football team was scheduled to open its season on Saturday, September 6, at home. With Saturday's weather more suitable for baseball than football and a dangerously high heat index, the game was postponed and played on Sunday afternoon. What a difference a day made: Bronco fans who came out to the game on Sunday were treated to a big win on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Autumn weather may not be here yet, but fall football definitely is.
The Bronco defense recorded the first touchdown of the game when senior Brendan Walsh intercepted a pass and ran it back 30 yards for a touchdown. Blind Brook then took advantage of a Bronco fumble and was able to run the ball in for a touchdown to even the score. Bronxville jumped back in front again when senior quarterback Graham Klimley threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to senior captain Charlie Tarry. The Bronco defense scored yet again when senior captain Luke Geiling blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone by Walsh, putting the Broncos up 21-6.
After losing kicker Owen Jones to graduation, the Broncos had some questions about their kicking game. Junior Sam Connors put those questions to rest by booting a 32-yard field goal to increase the Broncos' lead. The Broncos weren't quite finished scoring, however. After catching a short pass from Klimley, Tarry spun away from the defense and broke several tackles for a 30-yard touchdown run. On a subsequent Blind Brook possession, kicker Sam Connors showed his ability on defense, running for a 50-yard gain after recovering a fumbled snap by Blind Brook. With first and goal for the Broncos, seniors Geiling and Brendan Carty pushed quarterback Klimley into the end zone for the final touchdown of the game.
After giving up the initial touchdown to Blind Brook, the Bronco defense settled in and demonstrated the sharp and aggressive play that has become its trademark. Led by Geiling and co-captain Preston Klimley, along with recent University of Pennsylvania commit Steven Ircha, the Bronco defensive line dominated Blind Brook. The Broncos also got extremely strong linebacker play from seniors Carty, Zach Shively, and Rob Westerfield. With a final score of 38-14, the Broncos' season is off to an excellent start. Next Saturday, they face off against league rival Dobbs Ferry at Dobbs.
