Nov. 5, 2025: The Bronxville field hockey team captured the Class C Sectional Championship on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Rye Neck. It is the first time the team has won the Sectional title since 2022.
The Broncos finished the season with a 13-3 record with their only losses to top-ranked Lakeland, Yorktown and Horace Greeley. The received the No. 1 seed in Class C defeating No. 8 North Salem 4-1 in the quarterfinals and No. 4 Pleasantville 4-0 in the semis.
In the championship game against Rye Neck, all three Bronxville goals were scored by sisters Emma and Izzy Yeon. Early in the second quarter, Emma put the Broncos on the board with an assist from Ellie Fahey.
Bronxville capitalized on two penalty corners to extend its lead. Early in the third quarter, Izzy Yeon scored the first goal off an assist from Emma, and later in the third, Emma scored when she recovered the ball after Rye Neck had blocked yet another penalty corner.
“Izzy and I are identical twins, so there might be “twin telepathy”, but our team knows what skills everyone brings to the field,” said Emma. “With 12 seniors, many of us having played together for years, our trust and chemistry have been keys to our success during the playoffs.”
The seniors on the team include Captains Izzy Yeon, Ellie Garofalo, Virginia Hail, and Zoe Loader along with Sabrina Presant, Emma Yeon, Eva Klessel, Katelyn Brogan, Michaela Doheny, Virginia Shah, Grayson Curran, and Anabella Davis.
“Having such a senior heavy team has been great,” said Presant. “We’ve all been playing with each other for so long that we know how many of our other teammates play. I also think that our motivation to keep our season going as long as possible is stronger because of how many seniors we have. None of us want the season to end because this team has been a family for so long, and we all just want to go as far as possible.”
Longtime coach Jaclyn Frawley acknowledges this season’s team is a very talented and connected group.
“Emma and Izzy Yeon have been standouts at the end of the season in our playoff victories with goals scored and assists,” said Frawley. “Sabrina Presant is a game-changing player-- she runs the back defensive line and can control the field with her skill and poise. Virginia Hail is a midfield player, and she never stops! With her 110% attitude there is a lot of control at the midfield and help to get the ball into our offensive zone. Bronxville goalie Eva Klessel, who has committed to play at SUNY Oneonta, has been a great leader on defense, always coming up with big saves.”
With the win over Rye Neck in the Class C Sectional Championship, the Broncos advance to the regionals. They will face Section 9’s Rondout Valley today at 6PM. Rondout Valley finished the regular season with a 16-1 record. The Ganders reached the State Championship game in 2024 where they lost to 2-1 to defending champion Whitney Point.
“Saturday’s game was an unforgettable experience, and winning the Class C Championship meant so much to every player on our team,” said Emma Yeon. “Our motto this year has been “Play with Purpose”, and I think the vision and dedication of Coach Frawley and Coach Donato, the incredible support of our team families, and the determination and hard work of every single teammate made that goal a reality.
