Nov. 4, 2025: Runners from all over the world enjoyed a beautiful, sunny 55-degree day for the New York Marathon on Sunday, November 2nd.
The New York City 26.2-mile marathon course includes all five boroughs of New York. The race starts in Staten Island. Runners cross the Verrazano Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn and then run through parts of Queens. Runners then cross the 59th Street Bridge into Manhattan. They run north into the Bronx, then south through Harlem, and finally down 5th Avenue into Central Park. Runners then proceed south through the Park, and the race ends at 59th Street and Central Park South.
Among this year’s runners were Caroline (age 23) and Katherine (age 25) Pellegrino, two of four daughters of Laura Thornton Pellegrino and David Pellegrino. Laura grew up in Bronxville along with her four siblings (John Thornton, Nancy Thornton Hector, Sarah Thornton Clifford, and Amy Thornton Charlton).

Runner Katherine Pellegrino graduated from Trinity College in Hartford in 2023 and now works in marketing for "Hello Sunshine," a media company founded by Reese Witherspoon that aims to empower women to “shape culture and the world around them.” Katherine trained for the marathon throughout the summer and fall and ran for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
About her run, Katherine said, “It was really hard, but I’m glad I did it and raised money for an important cause. I think I might be one and done, but the NYC crowd pulled me through.”
Runner Caroline Pellegrino graduated from the University of Virginia in 2025 and now works for Fidelity Investments in New York City. Caroline’s fitness and drive partially stem from her years as a highly accomplished competitive squash player. She was a top-ranked junior player and then played on the accomplished UVA Squash team during her years in college.

Caroline ran for Fred’s team, which is the official running program of Memorial Sloan Kettering (”MSK”) and raises money for cancer research at MSK.
When asked why she ran, Caroline said, “It’s been on my bucket list, and I’m so glad I did it. I trained hard and accomplished what I wanted to do.”
Part of the inspiration for the girls’ marathon run was their parents, Laura and Dave, both of whom ran marathons in their 20s. Laura ran the New York City Marathon, and Dave ran the Long Island Marathon.
About their daughters’ run, Laura said, “This is something they really wanted to do, and they put in all the training to make it happen. I’m really proud of them.”
