Sep. 23, 2015: The Bronxville Bronco football team secured its second win of the season in Saturday's home opener against Albertus Magnus.
The opening half was a defensive battle, and although it looked as if the Falcons might score in the second quarter, a quarterback sack by Jack Reilly and Avery Cane stopped the Falcon drive. The game remained scoreless until the final seconds of the first half, when the Bronxville defense caused a safety, giving the Broncos a 2-0 lead.
Albertus opened the second half with a five-minute drive that led to a touchdown. A successful two-point conversion put the Falcons ahead 8-2. On the Broncos' next possession, they moved the ball to 1st and goal. Two running plays to the outside were shut down, but on 3rd and goal, Anthony Napolitano ran it up the middle to even the score. The Falcons blocked the extra point, leaving the score tied at 8-8.
Bronco defense came alive in the third quarter, forcing the Falcons to punt at 4th and 23 and giving the Broncos great field position. Unable to convert for a touchdown, Bronxville opted to try a 30-yard field goal but was unsuccessful. The game remained tied.
Late in the fourth quarter, Dylan James made a clutch pick, which led to Anthony Napolitano's scoring a touchdown with two minutes to go in the game. The two-point conversion by Brian DePaul gave the Broncos a 16-8 lead.
Albertus gained possession with just under two minutes left, but a key interception by John Seminara, his second, sealed the victory.
Throughout the game Jack Gelinas carried defenders as he ran through the defense, and Sam Connors made great plays in every phase of the game. Tucker Duncan had a strong game on the offensive and defensive line.
The Broncos are 2-1, having lost 40-6 to top-ranked Nanuet last week. They will play Yonkers Montessori (2-1) at home this Saturday at 1:30 pm. Yonkers Montessori lost to Albertus Magnus 35-0 in the second week of the season.
