Jan. 11, 2017:  At the 23rd Annual U.S. Army Hispanic Games held at The Armory last weekend, the Bronxville girls' sprint medley relay (400m-200m-200m-800m) ("SMR") finished first in 4:08.79, breaking the meet record that was set last year by Uniondale (4:11.46). The girls also broke a Bronxville SMR record that was set by Kerry Boyle, Bizzie Smith, Wendy Jaglom, and Elizabeth Bergold in 2004.

The Bronco girls finished almost six seconds in front of second-place Ursuline. Junior Laura Holland gave the Broncos the lead in the 400m with a time of 60.1, and junior Grace Randall and senior Sophie Kohlhoff, who each ran the 200m, kept the Broncos in a competitive second place. Anchor Kaitlin Ryan gave the Broncos the win by running a 2:12.47 in the 800m leg.

The U.S. Army Hispanic Games is one of the biggest indoor track meets in the country and features top athletes from more than 200 schools in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and Connecticut. The games were created to honor the Hispanic community that lives in the area around The Armory.

Ryan, who was described by world-track.org as one of the top five student-athletes at the games, placed second in the one-mile invitational with a time of 4:59.38. Abbe Goldstein from Germantown, Pennsylvania, finished first in 4:52.45. Ryan's time was third all-time for Bronxville and is currently the fastest time in Section 1 and No. 8 in the U.S.

Patty Haggerty placed first in the sophomore 1500m with a personal record of 5:01.58, and the freshman/sophomore relay team (Maeve Sullivan, Betsey Marshall, Caroline Brashear, and Eve Balseiro) won the 4x400m relay in a time of 4:20.57. More than 30 Bronxville girls competed at the games.

Alex Rizzo won the boys' one-mile run with a time of 4:36.27, a season's best, and twin brother Matt finished fifth (4:41.35). Luke Redman placed second in the boys' sophomore pole vault, and Avery Kane placed tenth in the boys' novice shot put.

Both the boys' and the girls' teams compete in the league championships this coming weekend at The Armory.
