Eighteen Broncos Selected as 'Journal News' All-Stars

By S. Quinn DeJoy and J. Murrer
Dec. 13, 2017: Awards just keep coming for the Bronxville fall athletes. Last week, eighteen Broncos were recognized as All-Stars by the Journal News, and All-State honors came out for boys’ and girls’ soccer and girls’ cross country.
Six Broncos have been given All-State recognition so far, and field hockey and football nominations will come out at a later date. Cross country runners Matt and Alex Rizzo were named to the first team in Class C, Natalie Weiner was named to the second team in Class C, and Emma Mandanas was given honorable mention recognition. Rachael Peacock, a junior on the varsity soccer team, was named to the second team in Class B, and Jeb Burnell, a forward on the boys’ varsity soccer team, was named to the All-State team for small schools.
Burnell, a senior, has played on the varsity team for four years and helped lead the team to the sectional semifinals this fall.
“Honestly, it has been the most fun I have ever had playing soccer,” said Burnell. “I played for travel and club teams, but it is so different when you put on the Bronxville jersey. You are representing your school and there is a whole lot more you want to play for.”
Four Broncos were named to the Journal News All-Star first team, swimmer Alisa Fominykh, soccer player Rachael Peacock, and cross country runners Matt Rizzo and Natalie Weiner. Fominykh placed 5th in the state in the 50 free and 7th in the 100 free. Rizzo finished 2nd at states in the Class C race and placed 15th at the Federation meet, and Weiner, the Section 1 Class C Champion, placed 9th at states. Rachael Peacock was named League III Player of the Year.
