May 9, 2018: The Bronco girls swept all but one of the relays at the Joe Wynne Somers Lions Club Invitational last weekend. It was an outstanding accomplishment considering the competition. Fifty-five schools of all sizes from across Section 1 competed at the meet.
Bronxville junior Caroline Brashear was named Outstanding Female Track Athlete for her performance at the two-day meet. In the individual 800m, she had a first-place finish in a time of 2:16.83, and she was also part of the winning 4x400m and the sprint medley relay teams. Brashear and her teammates had a busy week. They competed at Somers over the weekend and they also ran at the Fulton Invitational in Harrison on Thursday.
“I was a little bit nervous going into the weekend with three days of running in a row because that is not something I usually do,” said Brashear. “I was pleased that I was able to push myself and happy my times were consistent. Hopefully, I can begin to get those times down later in the season.”
The Bronxville girls’ sprint medley relay ("SMR") had an excellent time (4:09.65), placing them ninth all-time in Westchester County.
“I think we were feeling strong about the 4x400, but in the SMR we knew we were going to have a lot of competition, especially with Carmel. We were surprised but pleased to win the race.” Carmel finished just behind Bronxville in 4:11.09.
Teammate Natalie Weiner also had a great meet. She placed first in the 1500m in 4:50.35 and participated in two relays. She anchored the 4x1600m and the 4x800m relay, both of which placed first.
