Concordia President Nunes Hosts Inaugural "Conversations at Concordia" Event

By Rebecca Portnoy, Communications Manager, Concordia College

Jan. 15, 2020:  On Thursday, January 9, community members from Bronxville and neighboring towns attended an interactive forum on the campus of Concordia College New York.

President John A. Nunes, joined by Chief Administrative Officer Dr. Mark Wahlers, gave a brief overview covering the state of the College. He mentioned successes including a major uptick in donor support ahead of a soon-to-be-announced capital campaign; challenges including competition within the crowded northeastern higher education market; and strategic plans for the future including building and expanding upon the College’s most successful programs and partnerships.

For the majority of the hour-long event, community members were able to ask questions in an informal exchange of information.

Topics raised by the engaged and well-informed group sparked discussion around the College’s enrollment model, student body, academic programs, business plan, real estate assets, endowment and fundraising efforts. Challenges and opportunities in today’s rapidly changing higher education market were covered as well.

“President Nunes answered probing questions frankly and non-defensively,” said a community member. “It was an informative and reassuring session.”

Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin was in attendance, and cited community feedback gathered as part of the village’s comprehensive plan showing that Concordia College scored by far the highest approval rating among Village institutions.

Community members were invited to contact the President’s Office directly with any further questions.

Look for another Conversations at Concordia event in the upcoming months.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
