Feb. 26, 2025: The atmosphere was electric at the U.S. High School Squash Championships held this past weekend, as top teams from across the country descended upon the courts in Philadelphia. Among them, Bronxville High School stood out by sending two highly competitive teams, making a significant mark on the annual event.
This year's tournament, held at the renowned Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia, as well as three other local venues, showcased some of the finest young talent in the nation. The 2025 U.S. High School Championships is the largest squash tournament in the world featuring more than 1,600 players competing on 203 teams across thirteen divisions. Bronxville High School, with its strong tradition in squash, proved to be a formidable contender.
The Bronxville girls’ team competed in Division II and the boys’ team competed in Division III. Under the guidance of BFC Director of Squash Supreet Singh, and BFC coaches Julia LeCoq and Tunde Ajagbe, both teams spent months rigorously training, balancing academic commitments with practice sessions. Their efforts paid off as they demonstrated skill, sportsmanship, and a relentless drive throughout the tournament.
The Girls' Team
The Bronxville High School girls' team members participating in the tournament include a senior, Co-Captain Liberty Wilson, four juniors, Co-Captain Serena Lescott, Hannah Lescott, Petra Monogenis and Emma Yeon, two sophomores, Maggie Miner and Caroline Cregan, and one freshman, Piper-Joy Pytosh.
The girls' team, through strategic play and strong skills, advanced to the semi-finals, a testament to their hard work and tenacity. The team defeated Greens Farms Academy of Westport, Connecticut 4 - 3 in the first round. In the quarterfinals the team prevailed 4 - 3 over Lower Merion School District School of Ardmore, Pennsylvania.
In their final two matches, the girls had a 3- 4 loss to Groton and a 2-5 loss to Sacred Heart Greenwich to finish 4th overall in Division II and 2nd among all public schools in the tournament. This is an excellent result, particularly as one of only four public schools, out of a total of 32 teams, in Division I & II.
The girls compete in the FairWest League made up of teams from Westchester County, New York and Fairfield County, Connecticut. The team of nine players, which includes junior Izzy Yeon, in addition to the players already mentioned, went 3-1 during the regular season. Sophomore Maggie Miner played as #1 on the team for the Championships. Junior Petra Monogenis went undefeated with an impressive 5 – 0 in the regular season and 4 – 0 in the Championships.
