May 11, 2016: Almost fifty teams showed up for the 40th Joe Wynne Somers Lions Club Invitational this past weekend, including some of the largest schools in Section 1.
The Bronxville girls, who excelled in relays and the middle distance races, came in second to New Rochelle. Junior Kaitlin Ryan helped the Broncos with three first-place finishes and was given the Geri Gilberti award for most outstanding female track athlete. Ryan, who ran the 1500m in 4:36.34, won this event for the fourth straight year and was presented with an award by Margaret Wynne, daughter of Joe Wynne, after whom the Somers meet is named.
The Broncos were a standout in the Class C 1500m event, with Ryan placing first, Olivia Scotti, third, and Hilary Rizzo, fourth.
Ryan also took first place in the 800m with a time of 2:14.54 and was the anchor on the winning sprint medley relay team. The sprint medley relay finished in a time of 4:05.71, the third-fastest time in New York State this spring. Laura Holland led off in the 400m (60.75), followed by Caroline DePaul in the 200m (27.2), Sophie Kohlhoff in the 200m (27.2), and, finally, Ryan in the 800m (2:10.41).
The Bronco relay teams, 4x100m, 4x400m, and 4x800m, all placed first in Class C.
