Jun. 15, 2016: The Bronxville 4x800m relay team brought home gold last week at the New York State Championships. It was Bronxville's 21st state title in the 4x800m relay, and the Bronco girls put together some of their best times ever.
Senior Hilary Rizzo's 2:17.32 leadoff was her fastest of 2016 and placed the Broncos in third place. Sophomore Olivia Scotti helped keep the Broncos in the race with a time of 2:21.37, her personal best, and sophomore Laura Holland ran her second-best time of the season with a 2:19.45. Kaitlin Ryan's anchor leg of 2:08.32, her best 800m ever, brought the team to the Division 2 Championship. The 4x800m relay team finished third in the Federation behind Mamaroneck and Shenendehowa.
Ryan's performance at states was outstanding. Her time in the anchor leg of the 4x800m relay was an amazing accomplishment given that it was her fourth race in two days. On the first day of competition, she placed second in the 800m championship race in 2:09.31 and came back two hours later to anchor the 4x400m relay to a second-place finish. On Saturday, Ryan ran her second-best 1500m time of the season, 4:33.34, placing fourth in Division 2 and eleventh overall.
Ryan won six medals at states: four state medals and two Federation medals. Rizzo, a senior, finished her Bronxville career with four state championships in the 4x800m relay.
The 4x400m relay team (Eve Balseiro, Caroline Brashear, Rizzo, and Ryan) came close to winning the Division 2 title. They held the lead in the first three legs, but a 55.69 anchor leg by Anna Schug from Christian Brothers Academy-Syracuse gave CBA the win by just 0.62 seconds.
The 4x100m relay team (Margot Richards, Caroline DePaul, Alisa Fominykh, and Sophie Kohlhoff) placed tenth in Division 2 with a time of 51.13, missing a medal by just 0.9 seconds.
Year after year, the Broncos have had outstanding success at the state championships, and with the accomplishments this spring, Bronxville holds onto its claim as the fastest square mile in New York.
Go Broncos.
