Feb. 1, 2017:  Two Bronxville athletes had outstanding performances this past weekend. Senior Kaitlin Ryan won the 1000m at the Westchester County Track and Field Championship, and junior Andrew Babyak won the 500 free at the Section 1 Conference 1 Swimming Championship.

It was the fourth consecutive county title for Ryan, who won the 1000m as a freshman and a junior and the 1500m during her sophomore year. Ryan finished with a time of 2:51.94, breaking her previous county record by more than two seconds.

Babyak's winning time in the 500 free (4:39.19) is the fifth-fastest time in the state so far this year. In the 200yd free, he finished in second place and qualified for states in both events. Babyak swims for the New Rochelle-Bronxville combined team.

Both Ryan and Babyak were also members of winning relay teams. The girls' 4x800m relay team (Sydney Coddington, Patty Haggerty, Laura Holland, and Ryan) placed first at counties, with a time of 9:30.70. 

Relays from the New Rochelle-Bronxville swim team also had great success, winning the 200yd free relay in 1:27.95 (Michael Lawson, John Freeman, Tim Cushman, and Babyak) and the 400yd free relay in 3:15.32 (Lawson, Freeman, Aidan Flannery, and Babyak).

The Bronxville boys' track and field team also competed at counties. Sophomore Alex Rizzo placed second in the 1600m race (4:29.48), and sophomore Matt Rizzo placed third in the 1000m (2:37.19). Senior Andrew Murray had two top-ten finishes. He placed ninth in the 55m dash (6.87) and eighth in the triple jump (40-0).

Girls' Track

1000m: Clio Dakolias, 3:16.37, 9^th

1500m: Gigi Chrappa, 5:11.71, 8^th

4x200m relay:  Sabrina Mellinghoff, Grace Randall, Alisa Kanganis, Sophie Kohlhoff, 1:50.92, 6^th  

4x400m relay:  Maeve Sullivan, Betsy Marshall, Eve Balseiro, Caroline Brashear, 4:13.19, 3^rd

Boys' Track

4x800m relay:  9:01.86, 7^th

Pole Vault: Luke Redman, 9-6, 7^th

Shot Put: Avery Kane, 44-5, 3^rd

Boys’ Swimming

200yd free: T. Cushman, 1:46.30, 4^th

500yd free: A. Flannery, 5:02.67, 4^th

100yd backstroke: T. Cushman, 54.26, 2^nd

Track and field sectional championships will take place on Saturday, and the swimming sectional championships are scheduled for February 7 and 8.
