Bronxville Middle School Squash Team Wins Division I and II Titles at Fairwest Championships

Feb. 8, 2017: The Bronxville Middle School Squash team won both Division I and II titles at the Fairwest Middle School Squash Championship held at Chelsea Piers in Connecticut this past Saturday.
This is the sixth year in a row that Bronxville has won Division I. The winning team, which was managed by Michael Moynihan, included Tate Burgin, Charlie Clifford, Ronin Kaplan, Molly Stoltz, and Lainey Neild. Johnny Moynihan, who was also on the team, was injured but came and cheered his team on. This team won Division I without giving up a game.
This is the fourth year in a row that Bronxville has won Division 2. The winning team included Brooks Clifford, Ellie Clifford, Lainey Neild, AJ Radik, and Peter Vorbach. Charlie Vorbach, father of Peter and manager of the team, commented, "These children can be tremendously proud of how they played. Every player fought hard on every single point of every single game in every single match. They are a wonderful group of kids and their sportsmanship is outstanding."

Bronxville also placed second in Division 3 this year with a team that was managed by Tom Vail and included Nick Bianco, Jay Coyne, Spencer Krex, Billy Rizzo, and Charlie Vail. Bronxville's fourth team, managed by Sarah Zion, finished fourth in Division 3 and included Dya Acharjee, Ingemar Hentschel, Andrew Mager, Matthew Rodriquez, and Stella Shah.

"This was a really nice ending to a very successful middle school squash season," commented Sarah Clifford, parent coordinator for the program. "The kids played so well and had a great time."

Bronxville is a member of the Fairwest Public School Squash Association (FWPSSA), which was founded in 2008 to enable public school students in Westchester and Fairfield Counties to play squash in a competitive interscholastic environment. Other participants in the championship included teams from Briarcliff, Darien, Greenwich, Harrison, New Canaan, and Rye.
