Bronxville Boys’ Lacrosse Team Wins Four Straight

Apr. 25, 2018: The Bronxville boys’ varsity lacrosse team hit its stride over the past week, winning four straight games. On Wednesday, the team won 16-7 at Nyack. The Broncos’ attack line contributed 14 of the team’s 16 goals; Alston Tarry had 6, Griffin Gelinas, 5, and George Daskalakis, 3. On Thursday, the Bronco defense came up big, shutting out league opponent Blind Brook, with the final score 22-0. Scoring was balanced, with 11 players contributing a goal or assist.
On Saturday, the team traveled to Somers and in a very closely contested back-and-forth game, the Broncos ultimately prevailed 12-11. With the game tied at 11-all and 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Tarry scored on an assist from Gelinas to clinch the victory. Tarry led all scorers with 6 goals and 3 assists; Gelinas added 3 goals and 2 assists. The Broncos were helped by tenacious play at the wings and face-off by sophomores Nate Davis and Tim Murray, who each also scored one goal.

Yesterday, the Broncos bested Briarcliff 14-8. Bronxville controlled possession, with freshman Henry Donohue winning 20 of 25 face-offs and outstanding wing play by Mac Crawford, Jack Kiefer, and Grey Warble. Crawford had 7 groundballs, Warble had 6, and Donohue had 9. Tarry led, scoring with 4 goals and 3 assists, Gelinas and Daskalakis both contributed 4 and 1, and Ryan Alberghine scored 2 and 1.
The Broncos host Putnam Valley today at 4:30 pm in a fan day game and fundraiser for JBFC Mainsprings, a nonprofit organization committed to alleviating extreme poverty in East Africa.
On Saturday, the First Annual BXV Laxfest will be held at The Bronxville School, with fundraising events for One Love, including food trucks from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. Bronxville Youth Lacrosse games will be held all day on Hayes Field, and boys’ and girls’ JV and varsity teams will play on Chambers Field. See the schedule below.
