Broncos Honored at 2018 Spring Sports Awards

Jun. 27, 2018: At the spring sports awards evening on June 6, the 2018 Broncos were honored with many impressive awards. Bronxville athletes were presented with 67 All-League awards and 20 All-Section awards, and many players were recognized with special coaches' awards. Lacrosse players Allie Berkery and Alston Tarry received All-American honors, and lacrosse player Fiona Jones received Academic All-American honors.

Also honored this year was Athletic Director Karen Peterson, who just finished her 20th year at Bronxville High School. Athletic Council presidents Caroline Kirby, Sally Reynolds, and Mac Crawford, along with many former Athletic Council presidents, took the stage, and each gave examples of why they loved Mrs. Peterson.
Many students recognized her expert ability to deal with disasters. When Peterson started 20 years ago, she probably never anticipated she would have to deal with working from a trailer, rescheduling games because of multiple construction delays, reordering equipment after devastating floods, lengthy field renovations, and one small fire.

The awards evening also recognized two parents for their many years of volunteering. Athletic Council parent co-chairs Rose Crawford and Jane Sears were given the Bronco Legacy Award for all their years of hard work on the parent committee. The crowd gave them a standing ovation, and as they came onto the stage, they were presented with balloons – in groups of three. Crawford and Sears have brought hundreds of balloons to sporting events and always placed them in "groups of three."

At the end of each year, two senior athletes are given special recognition for athletic skill, sportsmanship, and leadership. Allie Berkery, who played varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, was given the Virginia Landis Award, and Alston Tarry, who also played varsity soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, was honored with the Lou Brinsmade Award. Berkery will play lacrosse at Northwestern, and Tarry will play lacrosse at Bucknell.
