Bronco Roundup: Successful Spirit Week for the Broncos

May 7, 2014: The Bronco teams celebrated Spirit Week last week with games and fundraisers. Below is a look at how the teams fared.
Boys' Lacrosse
On Saturday, the boys' lacrosse team played for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, raising $3,800 through donations, T-shirt sales, and a bake sale. The team (9-4) has had a very competitive schedule this spring, and Saturday's game was no exception. The Broncos faced top-ranked John Jay and held on for an 8-7 win. Scoring for the Broncos were Aidan Walsh (4), Matt Behrens (3), and Robbie Westerfield (1). Will Duncan and Behrens had three assists each. James McDermott, Henry Lilly, and Declan Borcich had four ground balls apiece, and goalie Andrew Harwood had eleven saves. With a win over Pelham yesterday, the Broncos clinched the league title. The regular season ends next Saturday with a home game against Mahopac at noon.
Girls' Lacrosse
During Spirit Week, the girls' lacrosse team raised money for One Love, a foundation started in the name of Yeardley Reynolds Love, a University of Virginia lacrosse player who was killed by her boyfriend in 2010. Last week, the Bronco girls suffered an 11-3 loss to White Plains and had two nail-biting ties: a 17-17 tie against Edgemont and a 14-14 tie against Horace Greeley. Top scorers for this week include Lilly Grass (9), Gretchen Richter (8), Grace O'Toole (7), Ellie Walsh (5), Mason Warble (2), and Charlotte Reynolds (1). The team will face Edgemont and White Plains again in the last two games of the season. The White Plains game will be at home on May 13.
Outdoor Track and Field
Both the boys' and girls' track and field teams won their respective league championships last week. This past weekend, the teams competed at the Somers Invitational, a meet that includes over 30 schools of all sizes. The girls' team finished in second place and the boys' team finished in eleventh; when the scores were combined, Broncos took the first-place title overall. The Broncos had great success in the relays, with the boys placing second in the four-mile relay. The girls took first place in the shuttle hurdle relay, the 1600m sprint medley, and the 6400m relay. They finished in second place in the 800m and 3200m relays and third place in the 1600m relay. Individual results from the Somers meet are listed below.
