Friday, Nov. 18, 6:50 pm, Gramatan Avenue: Police Officer Nigel Butler charged a 43-year-old man from Mount Vernon with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration after the officer had been alerted by the license plate reader for unpaid parking tickets. The 2003 Nissan Pathfinder was impounded and the man was processed on the scene and released pending his next court appearance.
Saturday, Nov. 19, 1:30 am, Lawrence Hospital: Police officers assisted the hospital staff with an unruly female patient who was causing a disturbance because of unsatisfactory service. The patient left the ER room of her own accord. No crime was committed.
Saturday, Nov. 19, 8:45 pm, Pondfield Road: Police Officer Nigel Butler and Police Officer Jason Kaiser responded to a call about a man wandering in the rain on New Rochelle Road. The officers located the male, who appeared to be in an altered mental state and unaware of how he came to be in Bronxville. An inquiry revealed that the 27-year-old male was a missing person reported in New Haven, Connecticut, who may have a medical history. New Haven police were advised that the man was transported to Mount Vernon Hospital.
Monday, Nov. 21, 3:19 pm, McKinley Street: A homeowner asked an unknown woman to move her car off the sidewalk. The woman threw ice cream at the homeowner and fled the scene. The homeowner was not struck.
Wednesday, Nov. 23, 9:38 am, Park Avenue: It was reported to Bronxville Police that on Park Avenue a 2013 Acura RDX was entered overnight. There was no forced entry. Ten dollars in loose change was stolen.
Wednesday, Nov. 23, 3:02 pm, Stoneleigh Plaza: A caller from Stoneleigh Plaza reported that she had received a phone call from an unknown person claiming that her daughter had been in a motor vehicle accident and that she needed to wire money to doctors to perform medical procedures. Contact was made with the daughter, who was not in any accident. No funds were sent. The incident is pending investigation.
Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
