Osteria Padre Pio is a Small Gem of an Italian Restaurant

May 26, 2021: Osteria Padre Pio is a small gem of a restaurant in Mamaroneck.
This six-month new eatery serves classic Italian dishes with a modern take on Neapolitan cooking. Renowned Chef Andrea Ingenito, from Compagna, welcomes you and makes you feel like you are dining in his home. His young partner and our waiter, Marco Varriale, also exudes a passion for the delectable food and spot-on service.
After we sat down, we were served a creative accompaniment to the fresh Italian bread - - a concoction of lentils, garbanzo beans, and carrots in olive oil.
Next we had Arancini 4 Formaggi from "Antipasti" that was Arborio Rice Balls with fresh ricotta, burrata, parmigiano reggiano and lucatella cheese in a light tomato sauce. This dish and every food item that we ate exemplifies the chef's penchant for using first quality hand-picked ingredients.
We had two outstanding "insalate" choices: Carpaccio Di Barbabietola, which was organic beets, arugula, feta cheese, and pecans with limoncello dressing; and Rughetta Caprino, which was arugula, goat cheese, apples, radishes, and walnuts in an Amalfi lemon dressing.
Our homemade pasta entrees were: Conchiglioni Fiorentini, a large shell pasta stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella, burrata and spinach in a bolognese sauce and Spaghettoni Padre Pio, Garofalo pasta, garlic confit, datterini tomato, eggplant mousse, burrata and fresh basil. Chicken Scarpariello and Salmone Mediterraneo and other options are also available from "Secondi."
We ended our meal with three homemade desserts: Classic Tiramisu, Oreo Cookie Cheesecake, and Canoli with ricotta and chocolate chips.
Osteria Padre Pio imports regional wines from Italy, and the Chardonnay and Shiraz were excellent.
The tables are spaced apart, and our cloth napkins and silverware were changed with every course. There is a small space outside for dining, and I recommend making a reservation.
Marco brought out olive oil in artistic Italian boot-shaped glass bottles for us to see. We also sampled "Coffincello," made with imported Borbone coffee and is Grandma's secret recipe for a smooth after-dinner drink, which was on the house.

The bar features craft cocktails and a wide ranging wine list. The vibe is a softly lite romantic setting with up-tempo jazz.
