Dining Out with Karen Talbot: D'gabby Restaurant, Fine French Cuisine in Eastchester

Jun. 15, 2016: D'gabby Restaurant, which opened two months ago, is a new French restaurant owned and operated by the Gamba family. Gabriella (Gabby), who is a darling 16-year-old, is the hostess; her father, Sergio, from Italy, is the manager; and her mother, Hilcania, from the Dominican Republic, is the co-chef in the kitchen.
D'gabby specializes in classic French food, with a new décor that is warm and inviting--stone-colored walls, dark wood tables and chairs, and a wood floor. The tables are covered with white tablecloths and napkins--the lighting and French background music add a nice touch.
A must-have aperitif is the duo de terrine maison, featuring homemade creamy and flavorful chicken liver mousse and country pâté, which was made to perfection and served with cornichons. Warm bread was served garnished with sweet marinated red peppers, French olives, fresh Parmigiano-Reggiano, and yummy marinated eggplant, made by Hilcania.
The frisée salad with lardons was an excellent choice to have next, made with crunchy and bitter frisée in a delicious vinaigrette with the traditional poached egg on top.
We chose typical French entrées to see if they were special--and they were! Listed under les viandes: cassoulet, a very succulent combination of duck, pork, Italian sausage, garlic sausage, and white beans, and ris de veau, a sweetbread steak with a nutty flavor in a mushroom cream sauce with vegetables. Both were outstanding. I chose the moules à la marinière et frites--steamed small, sweet, and tender mussels in a wonderful cream sauce with garlic and parsley. I love French fries and these were great. Other diners mentioned that the Gabby Burger with brie cheese is another winner. Prices run from $14 to $34 in this category.
For dinner you can also choose from five pastas such as linguini aux fruits de mer and risotto ai funghi porcini. Les poissons category offers gratin aux fruits de mer, sole meunière, and crêpes d'épinards et crevettes or crêpes jambon fromage, and others.
Our waiter was very pleasant and our dinner choices arrived in a timely fashion. D'gabby has weekly specials of two appetizers and entrées.
When was the last time you saw floating island on a dessert menu? Well, there it was at D'gabby, and it was excellent. D'gabby also offers profiteroles, crème brûlée, mousse au chocolat, and other delicious dessert choices.
