Bronxville Police Blotter: May 15 to May 19, 2017

May 15, 2017,
 7:05 pm, South Road:  A resident reported a suspicious vehicle parked in front of a home.  Officers interviewed the driver of the vehicle, who identified himself as a music instructor who was early for a music lesson at another residence. No crime was committed. 

May 15, 2017, 8:48 pm:  Bronxville Police arrested a male after responding to a 911 call about an unwanted person inside a residence. Arriving officers observed a physical altercation inside the residence.  No injuries were reported or observed. The male was charged with Criminal Trespassing and a Domestic Incident Report was completed. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance by Judge George McKinnis pending his next court appearance. 

May 16, 2017, noon, Bronxville Tennis Courts:  A female caller reported that an elderly man was stealing tennis balls and bothering members trying to practice. Officers interviewed the male, who returned the balls and left the area.

May 17, 2017, 11:17 pm, Alden Place:  Police received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had driven straight through the intersection of Kraft Avenue and Midland Avenue striking a stone wall in front of Alden Place causing extensive damage. Detectives were able to identify a license plate number with the use of village surveillance cameras. The driver was located at an apartment in Yonkers the next morning and was cited for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident and Failing to Notify DMV of a Change of Address. 

May 18, 2017, 11:16 am, Pondfield Road:  A business owner reported that another business owner entered his establishment flailing around a dead bird. A family member was contacted and took responsibility for the man, stating that he would take him for a medical evaluation on his own. 

May 18, 2017, 2:29 pm, Pondfield Road:  A caller reported that a barefoot male wearing blue jeans was walking through backyards in the area of Pondfield Road. Officers located the male, who appeared to be in an altered mental state. The combative male had to be restrained by officers. Accompanied by an officer, the man was transported via the Eastchester Volunteer Ambulance Corps to St. Joseph's Hospital for a psychological evaluation. 

May 18, 2017, 3:30 pm, Beechtree Lane:  A homeowner reported that four brass candlesticks had been stolen from a common area of the building. 

May 19, 2017, 1:35 am, Palmer Avenue:  Officers investigated a license plate reader alarm indicating that a vehicle belonging to an endangered/missing person was parked on the street. Officers located the owner of the vehicle, who was accompanied by a family member to the NYP/Lawrence Hospital emergency room. The woman had been reported missing and previously located in another jurisdiction; the alarm was never removed from the system. 

May 19, 2017, 9:14 am:  Officers responded to a verbal altercation between a male and a female. A domestic incident report was completed.

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
