Bronxville Green Committee to Hold Recycling 'Take-Back Day' Behind Village Hall June 10, Rain or Shine

May 24, 2017: The Bronxville Green Committee will host its semi-annual Take-Back Day on Saturday, June 10, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, so it's time to de-clutter! Take-Back Day is a day of recycling when you can bring items that are not generally collected in the weekly recycling pickups as well as cartons of paper documents. Members of the Bronxville Green Committee, as well as several Bronxville Department of Public Works staff members, will be on hand to direct and assist you. We will be there rain or shine!
We continue to keep this event a true green event with the goal that all that is collected ends up, in one form or another, repurposed.
You will see our volunteers in front of Bronxville Village Hall sporting our spiffy new signs that day. Enter from the driveway of the Bronxville Police Station off Pondfield Road, just past village hall as you head north on Pondfield Road. There will be volunteers and DPW staff members at the site entrance to direct you. Palumbo Place will be closed to traffic coming from Gramatan Avenue during the collection hours.
The county paper shredder will be with us. There is a two-box limit per car, and only residential papers will be accepted; commercial drop-offs are not permitted.
Take-Back Day will take place rain or shine.
Accepted Items:
Furniture: Used but still usable furniture. Furniture Sharehouse is a not-for-profit organization established in 2007 that provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester County, giving them the basic household furnishings that enable them to rebuild their lives and live with dignity.
IMPORTANT: Not all furniture is accepted, so please check the guidelines here.
Old Linens: Sheets, towels, and blankets only, please. They will be brought to the Yonkers Animal Shelter.
E-Waste: Electronic devices: Computers, tablets, monitors, fax machines, printers, TVs, VCRs, cell phones. Click here to view additional acceptable items classified "electronic waste."
Paper Documents: Residential papers with all paper clips and staples removed. Commercial drop-offs are not accepted. The county mobile shredder will be there for secure, on-site shredding. There is a two-carton limit per car.

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.
While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.
Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.
The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
