Guy Longobardo Will Not Seek Re-election as Village Trustee

Feb. 14, 2018:  After six years of service on the Bronxville Board of Trustees, Guy Longobardo has announced that he will not seek re-election. Longobardo, a nearly lifelong Bronxville resident, assumed his seat on the board in 2012.

Longobardo has a long history of community service, beginning in 1990 when he was a member of the village’s Long Range Planning Task Force, followed by service as deputy village counsel. He also served on the zoning board of appeals, the Bronxville Non-Partisan Committee, and a number of Bronxville School committees. 

During his tenure as trustee, Longobardo played a strong role in the FEMA flood mitigation project undertaken in the wake of Hurricane Sandy; in the Bronxville Policemens Benevolent Association negotiations; and in the Villa BXV project, which involved the sale and remediation of a power plant and gas-station site, the building of a luxury condominium residence, the return of the property to the tax rolls, and the provision to the village of a much-needed parking structure. 

“Guy combines an extraordinary love of his home village with a razor-sharp intellect and a genuine concern about the quality of life of every villager,” Mayor Mary Marvin said. “He is dedicated to Bronxville beyond measure.” 

Deputy Mayor Robert Underhill concurred. “Guy has been an amazing colleague. His high intellect, work ethic, and care for the village has left a meaningful and lasting impact on Bronxville. For example, Guy’s contributions were critical in making Villa BXV a reality.”

“Guy has been a real changemaker in trustee business. He's been an active participant in all realms of village activity during the six busiest years in recent memory,” said trustee Anne Poorman, who also is not seeking re-election. “Guy brings insight and focused determination to every issue. He works harder than anyone to understand details and to seek a solution. Guy's experience in law and corporate restructuring helped us when employment and real estate/construction issues were forefront. Guy excels at seeking consensus and offering real-world solutions. His wonderful sense of humor was so welcome in long meetings; he brought perspective and balance to our most vexing issues. We have been so lucky to benefit from Guy's service to the village he loves, his lifelong home.”

“I will sorely miss working with Guy on the village board,” said trustee Randy Mayer. “All of us bring different perspectives, but the remarkable thing for me has been how many times I heard Guy take a perspective on something that never, ever, ever would have occurred to me. And after some reflection, I'd often see that he either knew a lot more about the question before us than I did or that his take on it, though coming from a different direction, was right on the money. I have the highest respect for Guy. It's been a real privilege working with him.”

Bronxville Overview

Bronxville is a quaint village (one square mile) located just 16 miles north of midtown Manhattan (roughly 30 minutes on the train) and has a population of approximately 6,500. It is known as a premier community with an excellent public school (K-12) and easy access to Manhattan. Bronxville offers many amenities including an attractive business district, a hospital (Lawrence Hospital), public paddle and tennis courts, fine dining at local restaurants, two private country clubs and a community library.

While the earliest settlers of Bronxville date back to the first half of the 18th century, the history of the modern suburb of Bronxville began in 1890 when William Van Duzer Lawrence purchased a farm and commissioned the architect, William A. Bates, to design a planned community of houses for well-known artists and professionals that became a thriving art colony. This community, now called Lawrence Park, is listed on the National register of Historic Places and many of the homes still have artists’ studios. A neighborhood association within Lawrence Park called “The Hilltop Association” keeps this heritage alive with art shows and other events for neighbors.

Bronxville offers many charming neighborhoods as well as a variety of living options for residents including single family homes, town houses, cooperatives and condominiums. One of the chief benefits of living in “the village” is that your children can attend the Bronxville School.

The Bronxville postal zone (10708, known as “Bronxville PO”) includes the village of Bronxville as well as the Chester Heights section of Eastchester, parts of Tuckahoe and the Lawrence Park West, Cedar Knolls, Armour Villa and Longvale sections of Yonkers. Many of these areas have their own distinct character. For instance, the Armour Villa section has many historic homes and even has its own newsletter called “The Villa Voice” which reports on neighborhood news.
