See Bronxville School Holiday Recital and Concert Lineup: Public Invited

Nov. 20, 2013: The Bronxville School Performing Arts Department announces the holiday recital and concert lineup. The public is invited to attend all performances, which will be held in the school's auditorium at 7:00 pm.
Holiday solo recitals offer students the opportunity to perform a piece of their choosing before a small audience. Occasionally, students will perform in ensembles. Recitals last generally an hour to an hour and a half. Younger students interested in pursuing music are encouraged to attend these performances with their parents. After the concert, there is a meet-and-greet reception.
Unlike the music recitals in the spring, which serve to showcase students' pieces for competition in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival, the holiday recitals provide a relaxed setting for students to perform their favorite works.
The holiday "full ensemble" chorus, orchestra, and band performances include all middle school and many high school students.
Of special note this holiday season, the high school orchestra will perform jazz, which students have been studying with professional musician Dave Phillips through a grant from The Bronxville School Foundation. The orchestra regularly performs without a conductor, as in the style of the New York City–based Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
After performing separately, the orchestra and band will be joined by Bronxville alumni for a combined performance of Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride.
On the choral scene, there are two nights of performances featuring over seven distinct ensembles, including choruses by grade and school, select choruses by school, and combined choruses. The sixth and seventh grade choruses will join forces to sing "Here in My House," a holiday favorite that combines Hanukkah and Christmas melodies.
Nestled in between classic holiday carols will be seasonal favorites such as "Sleigh Ride," "Charlie Brown's Christmas," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "Baby, It's Cold Outside." The high school chorus will join forces with audience members to end the concert with the traditional "Hallelujah" chorus.
