Bronxville Teams Make Their Mark: Cross Country, Football, Field Hockey, and Soccer

Sept. 24, 2025: The Bronxville cross country teams are hitting their stride this fall, competing in two meets over the past week-- a Mega Dual meet at Van Cortlandt Park on Monday and the Somers Big Red Invitational the week prior. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams cruised to victory at the Mega Dual, which featured Class C competition, and the Broncos also had great results at the Somers Invitational, where the boys placed 2nd overall in D3 and the girls’ team placed 3rd.
The turf teams continue their excellent start to the season with the football, field hockey, and girls’ soccer teams being recognized by LoHud as top teams in Section 1.
With a win over Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, the football team moved into the LoHud Power Rankings this week at No. 9 and will play at No. 10 Pearl River on Friday night.
Both the field hockey and girls’ soccer teams are also included in LoHud Power Rankings. The field hockey team, who played some top competition this past week, is currently ranked No. 8, and the girls’ soccer team sits at No. 10.
Cross Country
At the Mega Dual meet featuring Dobbs Ferry, Westlake, Keio, Yonkers, and Tuckahoe, the Bronxville boys took the top four spots in the 2.5 mile course: Matthew Jensen, SO, (1st, 13:41.6), Nate Deutsch, JR, (2nd, 13:43.0), Julian Gonzalez, SR, (3rd, 14:25.3), and Will Hogue, SR, (4th, 14:28.2). Also placing in the top ten was sophomore James Conlon (8th, 15:55.2).
In the 5000m D3 race at the Somers Invite, Jensen (17:02.3) and Deutsch (17:05.3) had outstanding finishes, placing 1st and 2nd in a field of 147 runners. Hogue placed 16th (18:31.90), and James Conlon placed 23rd (19:02.70)
Freshman Mia Horgan won the Mega Dual meet for the girls’ team with a time of 19:24 and was followed by Carina Winiecki, JR, (2nd, 17:12.1), Ella McCalla, JR, (4th, 17:43.3), Emerson Dennis, JR, (5th, 18:01.3), Quinn Sheehan, SR, (8th, 18:43.1), and Kate Outcault, SR, (10th, 19:08.5).
Horgan delivered a superb performance at Somers, winning the D3 race in 19:24.0. Winiecki also ran a strong race, finishing 6th with a time of 20:58.2. The race featured 86 competitors.
Another highlight of the Somers Invite included the freshman race where Elizabeth Conlon placed 2nd (10:37.8) for the girls, and Sam Greenfield placed 2nd in the boys’ race (9:04.5).
Both teams will head to Milton, NY, this Saturday to compete in the Admiral Harrier Classic.
“We're very excited to see how the team does at the Admiral Harrier Classic,” said Coach Brian Halling. “This event will host several Section 1 teams and will give us a chance to test our fitness and get to know the course that will eventually host the Westchester County Championship in October.”
Football
The Broncos defeated Sleepy Hollow 35-13 on Saturday in their second game of the season. The team is now 2-0 after having defeated Westlake 35- 13 in the season opener.
Bronxville’s running game has been unstoppable this season. Brian Formato, who scored four touchdowns last week, repeated the feat against the Headless Horsemen, rushing for 178 yards on 23 carries. Thomas Freeman had three receptions for 37 yards, while Theo McMurray completed six passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Game 3 takes place this Friday at 6:00PM at Pearl River High School. The Pirates are 3-0 this season with wins over Tappan Zee (33-14), John Jay-Cross River (55-47), and Valhalla (40-0).
Field Hockey
The field hockey team (4-2) defeated Albertus Magnus 6-0 yesterday, but faced tougher opponents last week, falling to Lakeland (4-0) and Yorktown (2-1) Both Lakeland and Yorktown are among the top teams in Section 1, currently ranked No. 5 and No. 2, respectively, in the LoHud Power Rankings. The Broncos will play on Thursday at North Salem and return home on 9/29 to face Pleasantville.
Soccer
The annual Broncofest will take place on Saturday on both Hayes and Chambers Fields. The first round of games starts at noon followed by the final and consolation rounds at 2:00PM.
The girls’ team opened the season with a record of 5-0-1, but met their match last week losing to top-ranked Albertus Magnus 3-0. Sophomore Caitlin Paisley has been a force on offense, scoring seven goals in the first six games, including four game-winners. White Plains, Croton-Harmon, and Valhalla will travel to Bronxville for Saturday’s Broncofest.
The boys’ soccer team (4-2-1) won two games last week, including a 2-1 victory over Valhalla and a 3-0 win over Yonkers Montessori. Saturday’s Broncofest will feature Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Croton-Harmon, and Valhalla.
