Jan. 21, 2015: The Bronxville girls' basketball team had a break from the cold weather over the holiday. They met up with an old friend--Mickey Mouse--at Disney World, where they played in the KSA Holiday Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports. The Broncos finished the tournament 1-2, and sophomore Ellie Walsh was named tournament MVP. The girls were happy to spend time at the Disney parks with their teammates.
"It was a real bonding time," said senior Kristen Marrinan. "We spend so much time practicing together it was nice to really get to know my teammates on a different level."
The varsity team, led by captain Killian Donohue and coached by Donnie Lucas, is .500 so far this year with 6 wins and 6 losses. They started off the season winning Bronxville's Bill Green Holiday Tournament with a 51-17 victory over Tuckahoe and 46-35 win over Rye Neck. Walsh and freshman Ashley Kaye lead the team in scoring, and junior Maggie O'Reilly and sophomore Natalie Kister lead in rebounding. Also playing for the Broncos are seniors Marrinan, Lilia Briskin, and Mary Clare Connor, sophomores Alyson Schultz and Maddie Coyne, and freshmen Allie Berkerey and Nan Carpenter.
This young Bronco team plays in a very tough league with Ardsley, ranked 10th in the state, Woodlands, the defending Section 1 champ, Sleepy Hollow, and Edgemont.
The Broncos play three games this week. In the game last night against Yonkers Montessori, the team was behind for the first three quarters, but with a little less than six minutes left, they took the lead and had a convincing 33-25 win. The girls will play an away game at Sleepy Hollow today and will return home on Friday night for a 6:00 pm Bronco Bonanza game against Palisades Prep.
Go Broncos.
