Sept. 25, 2024: It was much busier than usual down at Chambers Field last week as the Broncos celebrated Homecoming. On Thursday, friends and families enjoyed dinner from the food trucks prior to the boys’ soccer game, and Friday and Saturday fans were able to dine at the Bronco Bar and Grill thanks to local sponsors Park Place Bagels, Lange's Delicatessen, Pete's Park Place Tavern, Scarborough Fair, Urban Hamlet, Mini's Prime Meats, and Gino's Pizza. It was a great Bronxville School community event.

Every Bronxville athletic team had games or meets last week., and below is a look at how they fared.

Football

It is still early in the season, but the football team has announced itself as a serious Class B contender with a 33-7 win at Pleasantville in their season-opener last week.  The Broncos treated their fans to some very impressive football during their home opener Saturday night. Playing under lights to a packed crowd, senior running back Davis Patterson scored three touchdowns and junior running back Brian Formato scored one to give the Broncos a 34-7 win over Pelham. The Broncos will play at Byram Hills on Friday night at 6:30. The next home game will be against Hendrik Hudson on October 13^th at 1:30. 

Boys’ Soccer

With 15 seniors on this year’s team, the Broncos are loaded with experience and talent. Under the leadership of senior captains Austin Waggoner (defender), Miles Jernigan (keeper), and Simitri Hanjis (midfielder), the Broncos have a 7-2-0 record, which includes wins last week over New Rochelle and Woodlands. Scoring for the Broncos in the 3-1 win over New Rochelle were senior Sam Becker, senior Kane Christian and freshman Leo Cipriani. In the 4-2 win over Woodlands, Christian scored twice and juniors Nick Gonda and Lucas Gonzalez also scored for Bronxville. The Broncos play today at Dobbs Ferry and return home on Saturday morning to face Hastings. 

Girls’ Soccer

The girls’ soccer team played well in their Homecoming game against an undefeated Dobbs Ferry team last Thursday. The Broncos shut out the Eagles 5-0 scoring three goals in the first half by senior Captain Kalliroi Ladas and juniors Sofia Terjanian and Carson Kochansky. Senior Captain Amy Villanueva scored two goals in the second half.  Mabel Arrighi and Caitlin Paisley each had an assist and Ladas had two. Goalkeeper Lily Delaney had five saves and Lulu Heathwood had two. In the week leading up to Homecoming, the Broncos defeated Westlake 2-1 and lost to Eastchester 2-1. They played Albertus Magnus yesterday and will play Irvington at home on Thursday at 4:30.

Field Hockey

Coming into Homecoming Week, the Broncos had three straight wins over North Salem (6-2) Croton-Harmon (9-0), and Scarsdale (5-0), but the competition during Homecoming proved to be a much greater challenge.  The Broncos lost to Pelham 3-2 on Monday, lost to Ursuline 2-0 on Tuesday, and, in an away game on Friday, lost to Pleasantville 3-1. Both Pleasantville and Ursuline are top ten teams in all of Section 1 according to LoHud.  The Broncos will play at Putnam Valley today and return home to play Pawling on Friday at 5:00PM.

Cross Country

The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed at the Suffern Invitational at Bear Mountain State Park on Saturday with great success. The girls won the Varsity A race with 74 points followed by Suffern with 83 and Warwick Valley with 88.  The boys finished second in the Varsity A race with 96 points just behind Mount Academy who scored 93.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The Bronxville girls competed against Mamaroneck on Thursday of Homecoming, losing to the Tiger 93-75. Caroline Hardart was one of three top scorers and had top finishes in the 100Y back (1:08.34) and

200Y IM (2:32.62). Bea Hogue placed 2^nd in the 50Y free (26.04) and the 100Y free (1:00.11).
