Sept. 4, 2024: With rigorous preseason training under their belt, the Broncos are geared up to start the fall season. Bronxville teams have had tremendous success in the last few years both at the sectional and state level. Lohud awarded Bronxville the coveted Tom Whelan All-Sports Award for small schools in 2021, 2022, and 2023, and the Broncos finished just behind Rye in 2024.
The Tom Whelan All-Sports Awards were created by Lohud in 2018 to recognize successful athletic programs in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam Counties. Each year, the Whelan award is presented to one large school with an enrollment over 699, and to one small school with an enrollment under 699. Winning the award three years in a row is a great tribute to Bronxville’s athletic program and hardworking athletes.
In the 2023/2024 school year, the Broncos won ten Sectional Championships and two State Titles. Last fall, the football team defeated previously unbeaten Westlake 13-7 to win the Class C Sectional Championship, and the girls’ lacrosse team defeated top-seed Albertus Magnus to capture the Class D Sectional Championship. The lacrosse team then went on to play in the state final four.
The Bronxville track and field athletes had an unprecedented year with the boys’ and girls’ cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field teams winning their respective Sectional Titles. The boys’ cross country team placed 2nd in Division 2 at the New York State Championships, and the girls’ team placed 3rd. In addition, multiple indoor and outdoor track and field athletes had top performances at the state level.
The boys’ and girls’ tennis teams both won their respective Division 2 Sectional Championships in a very competitive Section 1, and both of those teams went on to win the Division 2 New York State Championship.
So far this fall, Lohud has highlighted members of the Bronxville football and girls’ soccer teams as players to watch.
Five football players were named to the Super 11 Watch List: Seniors Henry Frigon, (ILB/OL), Danny Kelty, (OL/DL/TE), Matthew McSherry, (OL/DL), and Davis Patterson (RB/DB), and junior Walker Moore (TE/DE). Moore was subsequently named to the Super 11 list, which recognizes the top 11 public school football players in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam.

On the soccer team, three girls have been identified as players to watch: Juniors Carson Kochansky (F) and Kara Kochansky, (D), and senior Kalliroi Ladas (MF).

It is opening week for the regular season and the girls’ field hockey team tied Mahopac 1-1 in their season opener yesterday. The boys’ soccer team opens against rival Tuckahoe Thursday at 5PM at Chamber Field, but the girls’ soccer team will not play their home opener until next week as they are away this weekend Section 2’s Stillwater High School for a two-day tournament. The football team plays an out-of-section contest on Friday evening at Section 9’s James O’Neill High School. The football team lost 17-7 to O’Neill last year in the regional finals.
