May 8, 2024: The Bronxville boys’ golf team (l to r): Coach Chris Lockwood, Danny Kelty, Andrew Gay, Tommy Ruhanen, Jack O’Hara, Timmy Kenny, Walker Liggitt, Quinn Hershberg, Colby Hilbert, Andrew Shah, Alex Savoy, James O’Shaughnessy, and Alex Nazzaro.
After losing eight seniors to graduation, five of whom were starters, it would be fair to say the Bronxville boys’ golf team is in a rebuilding year. Walker Liggitt, a veteran senior on the team, was not sure what to expect this spring.
“I really had no clue what the season would be like, but it has turned out better than I thought,” said Liggitt. “I’ve watched a lot of guys step up to be starters and put some good rounds down.”

The golf team is 6-7 with wins last week against Edgemont (202-239) and Clarkstown South (203-250). In Monday’s match against Edgemont, freshman Tommy Ruhanen led the team with a 38, and Liggitt and first-year player Danny Kelty each scored 39.
Liggitt has been the rock for the boys' varsity team this year.
“As our sole senior and captain, Walker has set the tone for a very young squad through his work ethic and dedication to his craft,” said Coach Chris Lockwood. “Walker's average is under four strokes above par for the ten rounds he has played this season.”
Danny Kelty, along with Jack O'Hara, both juniors, have played consistently in most matches. In addition, Andrew Gay and Alex Savoy have played important roles in the team's success. In the 202-208 win over Eastchester in mid-April, Kelty, Savoy, and Gay led the team with 39's.

Thanks to the leadership of the upper classmen, two freshmen have stepped up this year. Tommy Ruhanen and Timmy Kenny have played in numerous matches and have proven that their future will be bright.
The Broncos have played some close matches, losing to Blind Brook and Yorktown by just three strokes. They have also played some tough teams, including Fordham who is looking to three-peat as the CHSAA Champ this season.
“Fordham and Harrison are really good teams, and we expect Rye to be very good, too,” said Liggitt.” The Broncos will face Rye tomorrow at Rye Golf Club.
Liggitt was honored on Monday in celebration of Senior Day. He has played golf since he was young improving his game over the years.
“My family belongs to Siwanoy, and I have grown up around golf,” said Liggitt. “I never really took it seriously until COVID. My Dad and I played a lot during the pandemic because that was the only thing you could do.”

As the season comes to a close, four to six Broncos are still fighting to secure a spot in the Section I Individual Tournament. The first round of Sectionals will be held on May 20th at the Century Country Club in Purchase. Those who qualify will move on the second round on May 22nd, and the top nine golfers will qualify for the New York State Championships.
Go Broncos.
