Feb. 4, 2026: Local contractor Artie Lange recently received national attention for work he was hired to do for celebrity contractor Jonathan Scott and his famous fiancée, actress Zooey Deschanel. Scott is one half of “The Property Brothers,” the sibling duo whose show on the HGTV network focuses on home renovation.
Although this was not Lange’s first partnership with Scott, the recent project was not done for the HGTV program. This time, Lange was hired to renovate Scott and Deschanel’s private home in Manhattan.
In the October 2025 issue of Architectural Digest, the premier periodical dedicated to home design, Scott and Deschanel discuss their own fixer-upper, in both an article and accompanying video. Viewers learn about how the space was transformed from what Deschanel characterizes as initially being “gross” to a high-end and cunningly reimagined dream home, with NYC-based Young Hug as the interior designer and Artie Lange as the general contractor.
“Artie Lange, who does all the custom millwork, is a genius,” says Scott. “In order to maximize the footprint and get as much storage as we could, we did a lot of custom millwork. We have literally the best millwork shop.”
Deschanel adds, “The thing is you have the best contacts, and you know all the best people to do everything.”
In fact, “millwork” is only a fraction of the service that Lange’s company, Arthur Lange, Inc., provided. By phone, Lange added that he was responsible for choosing and overseeing the crew of skilled laborers that provided the electrical work, plumbing, tilework, and more. Moreover, Scott sought Lange’s opinion about the apartment before committing to buy it.
Imagine if Artie Lange’s great grandfather could see him now.
The Lange family business has been around since 1910. Its founder, Nicholas Lange, painted home interiors. He navigated lean times by wheeling his paint supplies in a hand-pulled wagon. Three generations of Arthur Langes followed, each expanding the business to go beyond house painting to include residential and commercial contracting.
With a century-long resume, Arthur Lange, Inc., has developed name recognition in Bronxville and beyond. Arthur Lange IV, the current owner, grew up in Bronxville and helped his father literally build their house when he was a teenager. Later, a client of Artie’s bought that house because of confidence in the quality of its construction.

Lange’s relationship with the Property Brothers began in 2016, when he was tapped to be their contractor on four episodes of the HGTV program that were filmed in Westchester and Rockland. Their association has flourished throughout this past decade, with Lange indicating that he’s essentially the Scotts’ “go-to” contractor for New York-area needs. In 2019, Lange aided them in an unusual project for “The Today Show,” for one.
Despite this celebrity client, Lange notes, “I still owe my career to my Bronxville clients who helped me build my business the past 37 years.”
Not to mention the past 115 years.
