Rosie's Bistro Italiano: Still Delicious After All These Years

By Karen Talbot
Jan. 20, 2021: Rosie's Bistro Italiano in Bronxville is a go-to place for memorable food and consistent services. The sixteen-year-old friendly restaurant is owned by Dean Racanelli (Executive Chef) and Marco Lojano.
A large bar is located right as you enter and leads into a spacious long dining room with sweet orange walls, adorned with large interesting prints and zippy red banquettes. The dark wood chairs and tables are spaced apart for safety and good conversation. Subdued lighting and ceiling fans complete the attractive décor.
Crusty warm Italian bread with whipped butter greets your arrival when you sit down. We started our visit to Rosie's with an Antipasti choice, the Carciofi Caroline, which was artichoke bottoms, shitake mushrooms in white truffle oil with crumbled parmesan, which exuded a pleasant taste of garlic. Two other Antipasti that I have had and can recommend are the Melanzane Rustica (stuffed eggplant) and the Asparagi Camicia (asparagus wrapped in prosciutto).
From Insalate, we had the Arugulae Pere salad. The arugula, pear, goat cheese, pecans, and sweet and tart cranberries made for a winning combination.
Pasta dishes listed under Primi Piatti included Rigatoni di Bari, which was a great choice. It was a well-prepared rigatoni tossed with sausage, broccoli rabe, hot cherry peppers, and sun-dried tomato in a slightly spicy consommé.
Our Main Course from Secondi Piatti was Veal Di Martino, a tasty combination of parmesan-crusted scallopini, artichoke, asparagus, and black olives in a savory consommé with memorable mashed potatoes.
Noteworthy desserts include an Italian signature dish, Tartufo and Budino di Limone, and a delicious warm lemon cake with zabaglione custard and toasted almonds.
All of the wait staff are extremely attentive, including Leo, who was one of the Managers.
There are Chef Selections every night from each menu category, and wines by the glass range between $11 and $12.
There is a second dining room that can accommodate 50 people (pre-Covid) and 25 now. Curbside pickup is available.
Rosie's is located at 10 Palmer Avenue in Bronxville, N.Y. 914-793-2000. It is open Sunday through Thursday from noon until 9 pm and Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 pm.
