Nov. 4, 2015:  Bronxville is lucky to have a choice of four delis, and I sampled a Boar's Head turkey sandwich on rye (with Muenster, lettuce, and Russian dressing) from each one. Lange's and Bagelville were my favorites, and the prices were as follows: Lange's, $9.20; Park Place Bagels, $7.95; and Bagelville and Hickey's both charged $7.25. It seems that the prices are better on Palmer Avenue than in downtown Bronxville.

Bagelville

Bagelville:  52 Palmer Avenue; 914-779-6979; M-F, 6:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sat., 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. For breakfast there are many assorted bagels in addition to assorted muffins, scones, and croissants, along with egg sandwiches. 

For lunch you can order any kind of sandwich or wrap with cold cuts, cheese, and toppings or tuna, egg, or chicken salad. Hot choices are breaded or grilled chicken cutlet, meatballs, and eggplant parmesan. A classic BLT sandwich is $4.75.

There are a couple of tables and chairs and a small counter to sit at to eat. Bagelville has been open for 11 years and is owned by Diana and Mario Iapozzuto.

Prices: a regular cup of coffee is $1.35; bagels range from $0.75 to $2.50; soup is $3.00.

Hickey's Delicatessen

Hickey's Delicatessen:  30 Palmer Avenue; 914-793-0020; M-F, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sat., 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Kathleen Hickey and her co-worker Mary are the friendly Irish ladies who run this deli, which has been open for 10 years. For breakfast there are bagels, egg sandwiches, and pastries to choose from.

They pride themselves on fresh, rare roast beef and turkey for lunch, along with cold cuts, cheese, hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, and the usual salads. Their best-selling combo sandwich is "The Beastie," which has a chicken cutlet, bacon, melted pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and ranch dressing for $7.95. Hot choices include a pasta dish, chicken Francese or Marsala, and meatballs parmesan. Juicy burgers range from $5.50 to $6.95 depending on the toppings. Here you can create your salad for $9.95.

Lange's Delicatessen

Lange's Delicatessen:  94 Pondfield Road; 914-337-3354; M-F, 5:30 am to 7:00 pm and Sat. and Sun., 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Lange's has been an institution in town for 27 years, and for the past 1½ years, Thomas Bass has owned it. He has kept all of the food choices pretty much the same since he took over. 

For breakfast there are so many choices of eggs and omelettes done in so many different ways. For example, the Lady Diana consists of egg whites, turkey, sausage, and alpine Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin for $5.20. There are also pancakes and French toast and many baked goods to choose from.

For lunch you can have turkey, chicken, roast beef, ham, or vegetarian as a sandwich, wrap, or panini. Their "Bronco" wrap (chicken cutlet, bacon, American cheese, and hot sauce) is popular with the school kids, and adults like the "Lo-Cal Lover" (honey turkey, alpine lace cheese, honey mustard, and mixed greens on a toasted multigrain ciabatta). The many combo choices are creative and endless. Lange's offers 30 fresh salads that can be made to order at $8.95/pound. For dinner there are 26 hot entrees to choose from.

Park Place Bagels

Park Place Bagels:  9 Park Place; 914-793-7114; M-F, 5:30 am to 5:30 pm and Sat. and Sun., 5:30 am to 4:00 pm. Claudio Iaccarino has been the owner here for 24 years and can be seen serving food daily to his customers. Claudio and his staff recognize the faces of regular customers in the line and quickly put together their order. This helps to keep the line moving efficiently and swiftly.

The bagels are very popular and are served with specialty cream cheese spreads such as veggie, scallion, and walnut raisin, to name a few. Also for breakfast there are omelettes and burritos for $6.95. The Texas Burrito with eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, and pepper jack cheese is delicious.

For lunch there are 18 sandwich combos to choose from on bagels, bread, rolls, or wraps. The "Bronxville" sandwich (chicken salad, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on a roll or in a wrap) and the "Park Place" (turkey, avocado, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard) are both very popular with adults. A sandwich of bacon, eggs, and cheese on a roll is popular with school-aged children, as are salads (the choice sometimes dividing on gender lines). You can create your own salad from eight choices of ingredients for $7.95/pound.
