Community Thanksgiving Dinner to Be Served at Reformed Church Thursday, November 28 PDF Print Email

Nov. 27, 2013: On Thanksgiving Day (tomorrow) The Reformed Church of Bronxville invites, once again, friends old and new to a fun and festive Thanksgiving meal, open to all for a suggested donation of $14.

Seating in Congregational Hall, at the corner of Midland and Kraft, begins at 11:30 am.

The meal is far more than talking (and eating) turkey. Each year, between 75 and 100 guests savor not only the delectably cooked main course (and an abundance of sides and desserts), but also the gifts of friendship, family, and faith.

Organized entirely by church volunteers, it's a meal to be thankful for!

To reserve your space or for more information, e-mail CLOAKING or call the church at 914-337-6776.

Bishop Griselda Delgado Del Carpio of Cuba Visits Christ Church PDF Print Email

Nov. 20, 2013: Christ Church Bronxville opened its doors the first week of November to Bishop Griselda Delgado Del Carpio, who is the bishop of Cuba. During her visit, the bishop took part in Christ Church's All Saints' Day service and spent time with parishioners of all ages. Bishop Griselda blessed seven baptismal candidates during the service and welcomed them into the community.

High school students in the EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) had dinner with Bishop Griselda and reminisced on the past two mission trips to her communities in Cuba. Adults had the opportunity to meet the bishop in an intimate setting where photos and video about her diocese were shared.

The partnership between Christ Church and the Diocese of Cuba started two years ago when Christ Church parishioners traveled to Cuba for mission work. EYC students worked on a community farm in Itabo, Cuba, and created relationships with young people in the surrounding towns. This past August, a group installed water purification systems in Itabo and Havana.

Young at Arts Students from Christ Church Perform at Trinity Wall Street PDF Print Email

Nov. 20, 2013: The Young at Arts (YAA) Rising Stars performed on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, at Trinity Wall Street in downtown Manhattan. The Boys and Girls Choir sang beautifully as part of Trinity's 1:00 pm concert series.

YAA is an outreach program supported by Christ Church Bronxville. Its mission is to provide an outstanding music and theater education to a diverse group of young people from Southern Westchester County and the Bronx.

After the performance, the YAA students were visited by operatic soprano Camille Zamora, who sang beautifully. Students also enjoyed a master class taught by the incomparable, warm, and hilarious Carlos Conde, opera singer and a faculty member of Mannes College.

Those organizing the event included Marilyn Haskell of Trinity Wall Street, Vaughn Mauren, George Francois, and Sharyn Pirtle from YAA, Father Michael Bird, rector of Christ Church Bronxville, and all of the parents who came out to support the students.

Young at Arts is a nonprofit performing arts organization. For more information, including how to audition for a choir, please visit www.youngatartsny.org

Evensong Service: Sunday, October 27, 5:00 PM, at Christ Church Bronxville PDF Print Email

Oct. 23, 2013: Let your imagination run for a moment. The weekend is approaching and the calendar is dictating a nonstop series of events. There's a cocktail party on Friday night and a Saturday morning jog, followed by cheering on your favorite sports team.

Between watching the game and taking care of weekend chores, you anticipate dinner with family and friends. Familial responsibilities take over the majority of Sunday, and before you know it, the weekend is nearly over. How do we calm ourselves and refocus on the week to come? How do we reflect on what has happened, what is happening now, and how to approach the future? Come spend 40 minutes at Evensong at Christ Church Bronxville and center yourself for the week to come.

At Evensong you can expect to enter into a place of mystery where your senses experience new sounds, sights, and smells. You can expect the opportunity to pray individually and collectively at the same time. You should expect to encounter, what the psalmist wrote, "The beauty of holiness." Participation at Evensong is quite different from what one might expect. The congregation is wholeheartedly invited to participate through listening, seeing, smelling, and most of all--praying.

This Sunday, October 27, the choir will offer music by Edgar Day, Gerre Hancock, and William Harris at the 5:00 pm evensong service. All are welcome; please join us!
