Bronxville is Getting More "Green"

By the Bronxville Green Committee

In 2021, the Bronxville Green Committee, which advises the Village Trustees on issues of environmental health and sustainability, achieved significant accomplishments in the following areas:

-NY State Climate Smart Communities: Registered in the Climate Smart Communities (CSC) program and identified action steps within the specified framework that will allow us to create a climate action plan and achieve Bronze Certification. We are working hard to meet goals within this program!

-Recycling & Waste Reduction: Promoted local recycling rules, tips, and resources; continued well-established programs and implemented new ones to reduce waste and increase recycling – specifically, we helped run two successful community TAKE BACK DAYS and launched a residential Food Scrap Recycling program!

-Healthy Yards: Formed the Bronxville Pollinator Pathway group to create awareness about harmful yard practices and provide resources to transition to healthier alternatives; worked with Village Trustees to extend restrictions on gas-powered leaf blowers, as requested by many Bronxville residents who are concerned about the health and environmental impacts leaf blowers impose on our community.

-Giving Garden: Produced and donated hundreds of pounds of vegetables to Eastchester Community Action Program (ECAP).

-Community Engagement & Outreach: Created a new group to promote our community programs, educate and engage residents about environmental best practices, and develop partnerships with local organizations – please check out our new website, join us on social media, and review our many MyHometown Bronxville articles (under the Sustainable Living tab) from this year.

Please visit our website for more details about our work in 2021, our programs, and the wealth of resources available to residents.

Many thanks to the more than 40 volunteers who contributed to our efforts this year. Thank you, as well, to Mayor Marvin, the Village Trustees (especially Helen Knapp), the staff of MyHometownBronxville (especially Sarah Thornton Clifford), and Village Staff (especially Jim Palmer and Stephen Shallo), whose support makes our work possible.

Please consider joining us as we continue this important work in 2022!

We are Bronxville Strong & Sustainable – protecting what we love!

The Bronxville Green Committee

The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government.  We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
