By the Family
Oct. 28, 2015: Elaine K. Yale of Bronxville died on Monday, October 19, 2015, of a stroke. She passed painlessly and peacefully with family by her side.
Born in Boston, Elaine attended Girls' Latin School and earned a degree in chemistry from Radcliffe College. She obtained her master's degree at the Teachers College of New York after realizing that teaching math was her true passion. She raised her children while working in the Mount Vernon school system for nearly 40 years. She continued teaching at Westchester Community College until this past spring.
Elaine immersed herself in arts, culture, and technology. She traveled the world, frequented museums, adored the theater, and was always first in line for new Apple products. She was a superbly talented knitter, creating articles of clothing that were works of art. Elaine was a lifelong learner, always open to and interested in new ideas and experiences.
She is survived by her three children and nine grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elaine's name to New York Public Radio at www.WNYC.org. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Sunday, November 29, at 10:30 am at the Sinai Free Synagogue in Mount Vernon.
