E. Virgil Conway, Dedicated Public Servant and Longtime Resident of Bronxville, Dies October 21, 2015; Funeral Service Thursday, October 29

Oct. 28, 2015:  E. Virgil Conway, a longtime resident of Bronxville, died on October 21, 2015. 

He was the loving husband of Elaine, father of Allison Worthington, Sarah Conway, William Gay, and John Gay, and devoted grandfather of five. 

Mr. Conway served as chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority from 1995 to 2001. He also served as chairman and CEO of the Seamen's Bank for Savings from 1968 to 1988. 

At the time of his death, he was on the boards of Urstadt Biddle Properties and the New York State Thruway Authority. 

He spent over 50 years of his life serving the public in many facets, including as chairman of the New York Housing Partnership and trustee of Colgate and Pace Universities, and he was an elder of The Reformed Church of Bronxville.   

Mr. Conway was committed to Montauk, New York, where he was born and raised and spent summers in his vacation home. 

Calling hours will be held at the Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home in Bronxville between the hours of 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28.  

A funeral service will be held in the sanctuary of The Reformed Church of Bronxville on Thursday, October 29, at 4:00 pm.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Montauk Community Church, P.O. Box 698, Montauk, NY 11954 or Colgate University, 13 Oak Drive, Hamilton, NY 13346.
