Pet of the Week: Rooney

Oct. 23, 2013: Rooney is a nine-month-old shepherd mix who is sweet, fun, and loving.

This 45-pound guy is lively and every bit a puppy. He loves to romp around the yard in search of the biggest sticks he can find. The day after a storm is like Easter morning for Rooney as he goes on the hunt for fallen tree limbs to play with.

This charming fellow loves the autumn, when he can frolic through the leaves. He loves to play hide-and-go-seek in the leaf piles and take rides in the car with his head hanging out the window so he can enjoy the fresh, crisp air.

Rooney gets along great with other dogs and does not seem to take any notice of cats. He is shy with new people and concerned by strange or loud noises, so it would be ideal if we could find him a patient person or family who can work with him on his confidence and socialization.

He would do fine in a home with children but may shy away from them if they are loud and high-energy until he becomes settled and adjusted to his new living situation.

Rooney is doing great with housebreaking and will not have any accidents so long as he is let out on a regular schedule. He sleeps through the night on a dog bed in his foster mom's room and waits patiently for her to get up in the morning and let him out.

A few months ago, Rooney was diagnosed with diabetes insipidus. There are no side effects of this condition, and he is a totally regular dog in all aspects of his behavior. All he requires is three pills a day--nothing else.

Rooney is an exceptionally sweet dog who would make a great family pet. He is very eager to begin his life in his forever home and wants more than anything to have a family that he can love and who will appreciate all of the joy he has to offer anyone willing to give him a chance. He doesn't want to be shy; he only needs a caring person with a big heart who can teach him that people are good and no one is going to hurt him.

If you think Rooney might be for you or someone you know, please call today to find out how you can meet him. He is in foster care through Pet Rescue, and they can be reached at 914-834-6955 or through their website, www.NY-Petrescue.org

Pet Rescue requires all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application prior to meeting with the dogs and cats in their care. The application can be found on their website. To expedite the process, please make a note that you learned about Rooney through MyhometownBronxville.
