Jan. 22, 2014: Aye-aye, captain! Unlike a typical buccaneer, Pirate is a pacifist and a peacekeeper.
As the foster care diplomat, Pirate has taken on the role of kitty arbitrator and manages to restore order and harmony whenever feline unrest begins to brew in the foster home.
Pirate was living as a mouser in a store basement in the Bronx. The store owner did not feed him, and poor Pirate was expected to catch mice for survival; shiver me timbers! Somehow, this determined guy didn't end up in Davey Jones's locker and managed to keep himself alive. Thankfully, he is now safe, happy, and enjoying his mouse-free grub.
Well blow me down!; it should not come as a surprise that Pirate has only one working eye, most likely due to an injury from his early days. We can only guess that a mishap occurred when he was trying to stop a mutiny (either that, or he was fending off Captain Hook who was trying to make him walk the plank).
Pirate's eye is partially open, and the vet advised that it is best to keep it that way. However, there is no reason why his adopting family can't have him wear an eye patch to match his persona (with a skull and crossbones on it, of course.)
This gray-and-white tabby is a lively and playful guy who loves to be held and petted. He is as friendly as they come and a mate to everyone he meets. Ahoy there!; there is one lass in particular Pirate has taken an exceptionally keen interest in--Nina. It is the hope of the rescue group that a home can be found to adopt them both so they may remain together forever.
Nina is a lovely three-year-old white tabby with a cute round face and a little pink nose. Like Pirate, she was also rescued from the Bronx. Nina is very gentle and affectionate. She is great with children and dogs and loves other cats. Although she is initially a bit shy, once she begins to feel comfortable, she will show her affection through joyful purring.
Pirate and Nina are both in excellent health. They have been spayed/neutered, are up to date on their vaccinations, and have tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia.
So, me hearties, you can set up an appointment to meet Pirate and Nina at either PetCo or their foster home in the Bronx. For more information, please call Joan at 718-823-8655 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
