The Greekish: A Great Place For International Fare with Mediterranean Focus

By Karen Talbot

Mar. 10, 2021: The Greekish in Harrison is formerly known as 273 Kitchen. The Chef/Owner, Constantine Kalandranis, changed his menu six months ago from American to lots of Meze choices and has indeed created something special!

We started our dinner with our favorite dip, Tzatziki, done here with sheep milk yogurt, cucumber, garlic, and mint and served with warm pita bread.

From "Meze" came the Cyprian Ceviche, a fresh, flavorful, and crunchy concoction of daily shellfish in a tasty marinade. It was followed by Veggie Meze, which was Chilled Greeky Beets, the best-ever golden beets accented with hummus along with Charred Brussels Sprouts and Caramelized Cauliflower.

Tuesday is "Taco Tuesday" at The Greekish. We ordered the three tacos featured that night: Spiced Gyro Brisket, Hand Rolled Falafel, and Lime Grilled Shrimp. Wow. These were the chef's creative spin on the Mexican taco, served with Jalapeno Chipotle Sauce. You also get a Mythos Lager or an Ouzo Margarita on the house.

From "Signature Piata," we had the Chicken and Pork Slouvaki Kebab, which was outstanding, paired with the Goat Milk Feta Potato Croquette.

We were able to make room for the Bougata, which was warm phyllo wrapped semolina custard with Cinnamon Gelato.

We took home food items from every category to enjoy the next day.

Welby, the efficient and friendly Manager, told us that CDC guidelines enable the restaurant to serve 18 people inside instead of 34 pre-Covid and 12 on the outside front patio in warmer weather.

This casual eatery has brick walls, a large open kitchen, and a quirky and fun gigantic mural of an octopus, wearing a sombrero and holding a margarita.

Every night there is a different Greekish Pasta and a Fish of the Moment, and they also offer "To Go" Boxes, which include meals for four people with five different main choices, including sides from $55 to $85. They have Takeout and Delivery from Ubereats, Grub Hub and Seamless.

The Greekish is located on  273 Halstead Ave, in Harrison. The phone number is (914) 732-3333.  They also have another restaurant in Nyack.
