Sept. 17, 2025: The Bronxville Adult School (BAS) kicked off its fall semester with an Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at The Bronxville School. Over 200 guests attended the event which featured 21 free classes including fitness, music, dance, arts, crafts, cooking and lectures. The event allowed attendees from Bronxville and neighboring communities to take a free class, meet instructors and mingle with other students.
New students learned what the excitement is about while current students had a chance to sample new classes. Longtime student Barbara Kinsella explains, “I love that BAS offers such a great variety of classes. There’s always something new to pique my interest. The Open House allows students to sample a class before enrolling. I tried out the Stretch & Restore class this year. The class and instructor were terrific so I signed up!”
The BAS Open House has grown into a real community event. Bronxville Mayor Mary Marvin and Dr. Rachel Kelly, superintendent of the Bronxville School, attended the event as well as Clay Bushong, Executive Director of The Picture House which is an Open House Visionary Partner and sponsor. Other Lifelong Learning sponsors included Opa Opa Fresh Greek, DC Raneri Insurance Agency, Link NY Realty, and Chiara O’Connor Real Estate.
The Open House had a friendly, back-to-school feel as students and instructors reconnected after the summer and met new friends. The mix of couples, groups of friends and solo adults of all ages created a fun, social atmosphere. Several instructors who were not teaching that night were on hand to meet students and answer questions about their fall courses. “The Open House was a really great experience!” exclaimed cooking instructor Marcella Guglielmo, “It was so nice meeting potential students, instructors and staff. Everyone was very friendly. I enjoyed sharing my Energy Bites and discussing the health benefits of the ingredients. With positive feedback and several recipe requests, I would love to teach a class on how to make them.”
The free classes offered at the Open House included eleven fitness and dance classes such as SHiNe Dance Fitness and Cardio Sculpt. Another free class, Yoga Basics, is held early Friday mornings on the library lawn as long as sunlight and weather comply. After teaching the free class at the Open House, yoga instructor Nan Mutnick said “the BAS Open House was festive and energetic. The event ran smoothly, allowing potential students to try several classes. I enjoyed meeting new people and introducing them to Yoga Basics. I’m pleased that three new students have since enrolled in my class.”
Art classes on drawing and painting with acrylics were popular, as well as jewelry making where students left with a beautiful pair of earrings and basket weaving in which students made trivets. The well-attended lectures included Estate Planning Essentials, Price and Value in the Art World, and The Folk Rock Revolution. A gnocchi-making class, poker, and ukulele rounded out the evening’s free course offerings. In addition, six daytime fitness classes were held at other locations, and popular History Happy Hour and Buff Bones classes® were conducted via Zoom.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
