Iona University Cuts the Ribbon, Welcomes First Students to Newly Renovated Bronxville Residence Hall: See Photos

By Diana Costello, Iona University

August 29, 2025: Iona University is proud to announce the opening of Bohm Hall, a newly renovated residence hall located on its 28-acre Bronxville campus. Designed to enhance the residential experience for undergraduate and graduate students, Bohm Hall features elegant finishes, spacious bedrooms and modern amenities.

To mark this historic milestone, Iona held a blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony complete with food trucks, games, giveaways, music and more. It was a lively celebration that underscored Iona's commitment to creating spaces where students can flourish and build community. Bohm Hall can accommodate up to 70 students.

“While academic achievement is the focal point of an Iona education, the student experience outside the classroom is central to student learning and growth,” said President Seamus Carey, Ph.D. “The Bronxville campus provides an ideal setting for that learning and growth to happen.”

Sean Rivera ’25, ’26MS, who is pursuing his master’s degree in criminal justice, is also a Bohm Hall Resident Assistant. He said he was proud to be part of the first group of students to live on the campus – noting “these rooms are incredible.”

“Everyone moving in keeps telling me the same thing – that it feels less like a dorm and more like a hotel. And I think that says a lot not just about the design of this building, but about the care and thought that went into making it feel welcoming. And while the space itself is amazing, what’s even more exciting is the community we’re going to build here,” he said during his remarks. “Together, we are making history as we launch this next chapter of student life at Iona’s Bronxville campus.”

Highlights of Bohm Hall Include:

-Spacious Rooms: Double and limited triple rooms, each with ample closet space, storage, desks, and individual HVAC units.

-Updated Bathrooms: Shared facilities on each floor with high-end finishes, multiple sinks, toilets, and showers.

-Laundry Room: Convenient on-site laundry facilities.

-Student Lounges: Community lounges for studying, socializing, and other student programming.

-Safety & Security: 24/7 Campus Safety with card-access entry, overnight security, and on-site staff including four Resident Assistants and a full-time Residence Hall Director.

-Transportation: Gael Express Shuttle service connecting Bronxville and New Rochelle campuses, plus a dedicated Friday shuttle to downtown Bronxville.

-Parking Access: Residential students in Bronxville may register a vehicle and park in designated overnight spaces.

-Dining: Expanded hours in the Café at Bronxville, meal plan access to nearby eateries, and access to Avenue C Market in the Kelly Center for Health Sciences.

-Fitness Access: Use of campus fitness facilities on the Bronxville campus.

-Commitment to Mission: A campus minister has been intentionally placed at Bohm to seamlessly integrate mission and ministry into the living experience.

Building on the Momentum

Bohm Hall is more than a residence hall – it is a cornerstone of Iona’s evolving Bronxville presence. It joins the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences and the state-of-the-art Kelly Center for Health Sciences, helping to position the Bronxville campus as a dynamic hub of academic excellence, innovation and student life.

The Bronxville campus is also growing as a vibrant location for Iona’s NCAA Division I athletics teams, club sports and the performing arts.

The campus is home to several of Iona’s Division I programs such as baseball, acrobatics & tumbling and golf, along with a range of club sports including weightlifting, soccer, lacrosse and more.

Next year, Iona will also utilize the campus’s indoor and outdoor tennis courts to launch its newest DI teams – men's and women’s tennis – while club tennis will begin this fall.

The Sommer Center, meanwhile, serves as a central space for performing arts, featuring a modern dance studio that supports programs in dance, cheer and Irish dance, as well as a theater for ensemble and other performances.

“Iona has been extremely intentional about expanding opportunities for our students to grow and flourish both inside and outside of the classroom,” said Kevin O’Sullivan, senior vice president for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs. “We are thrilled to welcome our first residential students to Iona Bronxville and cannot wait to see how they will continue to make it their own.”

A Legacy Reimagined

While the renovation of Bohm Hall ushers in a new chapter, it also honors the campus’s past. When the Bronxville property was home to Concordia College, it served as a residential space for women enrolled at Iona. Today, that legacy continues as the University revitalizes Bohm Hall to serve the needs of a new generation of students.

Living in Bronxville

Located just one mile from campus, the Village of Bronxville offers a vibrant, walkable community that’s frequently ranked among the most desirable places to live in the country. From local coffee shops and restaurants to an independent theater and more, students have countless opportunities to explore, connect and enjoy life beyond the campus. Nearby Metro-North trains to Manhattan also provide easy access to internships, cultural experiences and professional opportunities in New York City.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
