Feb. 29, 2012:  Sign up now for courses at the Bronxville Adult School and engage your brain!

A recent New York Times article credited continuing education with keeping one's mind sharp and with better decision making.  The Bronxville Adult School, with a mission of lifelong learning at an affordable cost, can help you get involved and be enriched.  Many of our semester-long classes in physical fitness, languages, and bridge start next week.

Technology:  There are many fun and interesting classes to choose from.  If you want a technology challenge, optimize your iPhone use in a two-night hands-on class.  Three different social media workshops are offered, and a great sports photography class with Arista Camera will have you capturing all those big-game moments for a lifetime.

Job Seekers:  Job seekers and those looking to upgrade their skills will benefit from Essential Computer Skills for the Workplace, an eight-week class (sold out this past fall), while Notch Up Your Online Presence for Job Seekers or You're on LinkedIn ... Now What? will help you make the most out of online networking resources in just one evening.

Perhaps all of this technology buzz has you tossing and turning at night.  Discover how hypnosis can be a fast and effective tool in Unlock your Brain: Hypnosis for Insomnia.  Or release tension in one of the many different yoga and Pilates classes, including the new Gentle Yoga, which meets on Monday mornings.

Bridge and Other Sports:  Bridge is one of the ways many people like to keep challenged, and new this term at the Bronxville Adult School are four short advanced bridge seminars, helping local bridge players hone their skills.  Of course, there are classes for beginners and novices as well so that everyone can enjoy this popular pastime.  And if you're hesitant about bridge, Mah Jongg, the fun and sociable Chinese tile game, is in the middle of a US revival.  Classes for beginners will be available during the day and at night.

Arts and Crafts:  Interested in expanding your creative side?  Along with longtime classes in oil and watercolor painting and more recent additions like ceramics, knitting, and portrait drawing, the Bronxville Adult School has two new arts and crafts courses this spring.  Students in The Collage Artist in You will transform found materials into personal artistic works, while those in Needlepoint: Bronxville Pillow will produce a one-of-a-kind Bronxville pillow, perfect for graduation or shower gifts.  No experience necessary!

Music:  And if music is your passion, try Classical Music in Jeans, a lively and fun approach to music appreciation led by a dynamic instructor.  Just three classes will help you experience a deeper enjoyment of music.

Cooking, Languages, Dance, and More:  All these, plus exciting day trips and classes in cooking, languages, dance, and more, are scheduled weekdays, weeknights, and weekends at the Bronxville Adult School.  Catalogues are available online at www.bronxvilleadultschool.org (where you can register immediately), at the library, and at many local establishments.

You can also call the BAS office at 914-793-4435, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to noon, to register by Visa, MasterCard, or check, or with any questions.

Bronxville Public Library

Bronxville Public Library

The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.

The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.

The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children.  All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
