Oct. 30, 2013: The first step in getting published is querying literary agents--and to catch one's eye you need a dynamite query letter that will stand out from the dozens (sometimes hundreds) they receive every week. To this end, instructors Cynthia Manson and Caitlin Alexander will conduct a letter-writing seminar on Saturday, November 2, from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at Sarah Lawrence College in the building located at 45 Wrexham Road.
In this three-hour interactive workshop, an experienced literary agent and an editor will walk you through the key components of effective pitch letters and queries, from the all-important "hook," to how to describe your book in a succinct, attention-grabbing paragraph, to what to include (and what not to include) in your bio--mixed in with plenty of insider tips about what agents and editors are really looking for.
The emphasis will be on personalized feedback and editing of your query letter draft, which you'll bring with you to the workshop. Don't have a query letter yet? Don't worry. You'll come away from this class with a bevy of advice and inspiration to get you started.
The cost of the session is $125. Register by November 1. For additional information, call Katrina Brown at 914-395-2205.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
