Sarah Lawrence Writing Institute Hosts Discussion with Young Adult Novelist Annabel Monaghan
Feb. 26, 2014: The Writing Institute at Sarah Lawrence College is pleased to present an author reading and interactive discussion with young adult novelist and Writing Institute alumna Annabel Monaghan on Thursday, March 6, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
This free-of-charge public reading, alumna-instructor interview, and audience Q&A session will take place at the SLC Center for Continuing Education living room located at 45 Wrexham Road on the campus of Sarah Lawrence College.
Ms. Monaghan will read excerpts from her most recent novel, Double Digit, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This sequel to her first YA book, A Girl Named Digit, chronicles the continuing adventures of math genius and computer geek Farrah Higgins, aka Digit, who is now 18 and attending MIT. In this saga, Digit's exceptional code-cracking ability inadvertently lands her in serious trouble with the Department of Defense. Simultaneously, she continues to be pursued by eco-terrorist Jonas Furnis, who follows her from LA to Cambridge to capture her.
After the reading, Ms. Monaghan will be interviewed about the process of getting her books published and brokering a deal with the Disney Channel to create a movie based on her first YA novel. Writing Institute instructor Jimin Han, who, along with Patricia Dunn, co-taught the novel writing course that Monaghan took while writing A Girl Named Digit, will facilitate the Q&A.
In addition to novel writing, Ms. Monaghan authors a biweekly column for the Rye Record, regularly contributes to The Week, and co-authored a nonfiction book titled Click!: The Girl's Guide to Knowing What You Want and Making It Happen (Simon and Schuster, 2007). She earned an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Duke University.

Bronxville Public Library
The Bronxville Public Library traces its origins back to 1875, when it was a small lending library housed in a room attached to the “Bronxville Model School.” The Library was officially chartered in 1906 and moved into the Village Hall Building. The needs of the library grew with the town and, in 1942, a new standalone building was erected, which is where the Library is today. Over the years, the Library was renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the community.
The Library has wonderful resources for adults and children and offers a comfortable and relaxing environment. The Library also houses a fine art collection, consisting principally of Bronxville painters and sculptors.
The Library offers special events, art exhibitions, and programs for adults, young adults and children. All events are open to the public, unless otherwise indicated.
