Oct. 8, 2014: Mary Marvin, mayor of Bronxville, is the new president of the Westchester Municipal Officials Association (WMOA) in a one-year term that will utilize her many years of experience serving in local government. Thomas M. Roach, mayor of White Plains, is the first vice president.
The Westchester Municipal Officials Association (WMOA) states on its website that it is "an organization of, and for, the 45 cities, villages and towns in Westchester County. . . . The WMOA provides a forum for its member municipalities to study issues of mutual concern and to take action on such issues that will have a beneficial effect upon the public safety, health and welfare of its members' citizenry."
On taking office, Mayor Marvin stated in a letter to the members posted on the WMOA website, "As president, one of my biggest goals is to advance good government/nonpartisan issues and send one voice to Albany. I think we all agree that Westchester is one of the most important counties in New York State, though our voice does not seem to be very well heard despite the fact that we represent 45 deeply rooted communities."
She further added, "I would like to be an agent for change as opposed to dealing with the same issues of unfunded mandates year in and year out. I urge others to join us and encourage you to contact me with any suggestions and ideas to grow our association even more."
Among the municipal issues under review in the last year are the federal housing settlement, the Block Grant disaster relief, the Westchester County Charter Revision Commission, the 2% tax cap, and clean energy assessment.
Never hesitating to use local talent, Mayor Marvin has appointed Village Administrator James Palmer to the executive committee.
