March 10, 2026: This morning at 10:17am, there was a 2.3 magnitude earthquake felt in parts of Westchester County. The epicenter was in Sleepy Hollow.
If you were in Bronxville on April 5th, 2024, you might have felt another earthquake at around 10:23 am. On that day, it was reported that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit parts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Below is a statement from Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins on the March 10th earthquake.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Statement on Earthquake
“At 10:17 a.m. today March 10, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter in Sleepy Hollow was felt in parts of Westchester County. At this time, the County’s Department of Emergency Services has not received any reports of operational impacts or damage to infrastructure.
“Officials at the former Indian Point site have also reported no impacts to operations and are conducting precautionary site surveys as part of their standard safety protocols.
“While this was a minor event, it is a reminder that Westchester County sits in a region where seismic activity can occur. Today’s earthquake underscores yet another reason why a nuclear power plant does not belong in Westchester County. The safety of our residents and the protection of the Hudson Valley must always come first.”
The Bronxville Green Committee is a volunteer organization under Village government. We work with the Trustees and Village staff on programs that promote clean energy initiatives and sustainable ways of living. Our programs include The Bronxville Giving Garden, a community garden whose produce is donated to local groups; Take Back Day, when we collect items to be recycled; and Pollinator Pathways, which encourages adding native plants to our gardens. We believe everyone can make a difference by adopting simple, sustainable practices in daily life so we can work together to protect what we love -- our families, our homes and our town.
