Bronxville Outdoor Track and Field Teams Win Leagues, Gravier Sets Another Record, and Lacrosse Playoff Preview

May 15, 2024: The track and field teams won their respective League Championships on Monday and will compete in Sectionals and the Westchester County Championship before Memorial Day weekend. The regular season for the lacrosse teams has come to a close and playoffs begin later this week. Below is a look at how the teams have fared so far this season.

Outdoor Track and Field

The boys and girls track and field teams hosted League Championships on Monday at the James Owen Mitchell Track. The Bronxville girls won the League Championship with 296 points and were followed by Rye Neck with 136 and Tuckahoe with 43. The boys’ team won with a score of 245 while second-place Rye Neck scored 149 and Blind Brook scored 39.

Junior Wyatt Gravier has had a record-breaking season, and he had another tremendous day at the League Championships on Monday.  Gravier had set a new record of 14.20 in the 110m hurdles at the Loucks Games on Saturday, and lowered it again at Leagues on Monday to 14.17.  Gravier is currently ranked No. 2 in New York in this event.

Gravier has had an incredible spring season.  At the Gold Rush Invitational at the end of April, he set a meet record in the 200m hurdles (24.79), and at the Loucks Games last Saturday he also set a record in the 400m hurdles (56.85). There were over 200 schools from across the Northeast competing at the Loucks Games.

“We're so proud of him and the remarkable season he is assembling,” said Coach Halling.  “It's truly one of the very best we've ever seen at Bronxville.”

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Class D Bronxville girls finished up the regular season with a 9-6 record but have only played one game against a Class D opponent. Their losses mostly came at the hands of top-seeded Class A, B and C teams like Suffern, Yorktown, Nyack and Rye. The Broncos are the top-ranked Section 1 Class D team in the state at No. 6 according to LaxNumbers.

The Bronxville girls enter the Class D playoffs this week as the No. 3 seed behind Albertus Magnus and Pleasantville, and they are currently No. 6 in the LoHud Power Rankings. They received a bye in the first round and will play the winner of No.6 Pawling/No. 11 North Salem on Saturday at home.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Class D Bronxville boy’s lacrosse team finished up the regular season yesterday with a decisive 17-1 win over Hastings. On the way to post-season, the boys have also played their fair share of games against highly competitive opponents. They suffered losses to Mamaroneck, No. 1 in Class A, Yorktown, No. 2 in Class B, and John jay Cross River, No. 1 in Class C, but playing these highly competitive schools will have prepared them well for the Class D playoffs. 

The boys head into the playoffs after securing four straight wins against Irvington (18-6), Tappan Zee (13-10), Edgemont (17-2), and Hastings. Seeding for the playoffs will take place this week.

Tappan Zee, ranked No. 3 in Class C, came into the game against the Broncos with a nine-game winning streak, and the Broncos handed them their first loss since early April. In that game, scorers included Thomas Freeman (4G,1A) and Jack Reilly (4G), Brian Formato (2G), Nick Martinelli (1G, 3A), Ben Atkeson (1G,1A), and Teddy Gramins (1G,1A). Luke Arrghi had 22 saves.

In the Tappan Zee game, senior Jack Reilly scored his 100th career point and junior Teddy Gramins scored his 50th. Sophomore Thomas Freeman scored his 50th career point in the win over Edgemont.
